As with almost all Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay's stories, this one too is dark and unsettling. It deals with the vile manners and ulterior motives of men and women, none of whom can be trusted. Everyone wears not one but multiple shades of grey, irrespective of whether he or she has committed the central crime of the story or not. And in that sense, it sets up just the right mood for a noir-esque thriller. But just about then, director Birsa Dasgupta tries to do too much - of everything - to spoil the broth. Too much poetry, too much coquettish dialogue, too much overwriting - it just goes downhill from what is essentially an excellent opening sequence, one that holds both intrigue and promise. Twenty minutes into the film, and you are already feeling fidgety, because everyone on screen and behind it is trying to act too smart. Forty, and you are bored to death, because nothing new is happening, and by the time the interval comes, you are wondering whether you should even return to the auditorium after your bio break.
A really bad acting from the majority of the cast. Dev is just a joker. Most of the time it feels they are uncomfortable with their characters. The dub seems so fake. I have some expectation from Rajatabha Dutta, Santilal Banerjee & Satyam Bhattacharya but they failed. Personally, really disappointed with the character and the actor of Manilal (Satyam). The chemistry between Satyabati and Byomkesh is also very immature. Some of the actors have problem in accent in Bengali. The screenplay need to improve a lot. Dialogues are poorly written due to lack of research work. The direction is totally horrible. Overall this film suffers from poor writing, terrible execution.

Review of #ByomkeshODurgoRahoshyo ::: Firstly Direction by #BirsaDasgupta is fairly average, Screenplay by Subhendu Dasmunshi is very sloth. Based on the bestseller Durgo Rahasya by #SharadinduBandyopadhyay and produced by #Dev, #ShyamSundarDey & Tanmoy Banerjee is not upto the mark.
As per performances are concerned, the trio Dev, #RukminiMaitra & even #AmbarishBhattacharya is miscasted and eventually they gave their career's worst performances. #RajatavaDutta, #ShantilaalMukherjee, #DebeshChattopadhyay & #ShankarDebnath lent abled support. #SatyamBhattacharya was impressive. #SampurnaMandal in her cameo sparkles in her body language and dialogue delivery. But the performance of whom I can speak volumes is of none other than #AtmadeepGhosh. Whatta marvellous actor he is !!!
Cinematography by #SubhankarBhar is of high order. Specially the way he took the frames in darkness meticulously. But since 80% of the film is shot in darkness, so the audience may tend to feel mundane. Editing by Sumit Chowdhury could have been crisper. The pace of the whole film is very slow, barring the last 15 mins. Costumes by #JayantiSen is of high order, specially the way she has handled the vintage look of the 40's through the styling of the cast. But, I must say, Pregnant Satyaboti shouldnt have worn such heavy or rich and ironed costumes.
Well this Byomkesh haven't smoked. Thats a nice touch of cinematic liberty. But instead of Bouthan, Ajit continuously calling Satyaboti as Satyo in 40's era, was too much to digest.
But a very predictable plot, and even if you haven't read the novel, still you can guess the culprit. Because, audience now-a-days are not dumb enough to be lost in such a narrative pattern.
Music by #DiptarkaBose was not at all hummable. The theme song is good but it didnt find any place on anyone's mind.
Production companies #ShadowFilms & #DevEntertainmentVentures and Distribution by #PVRInoxPictures have made a #OneTimeWatch film. U may give it a pass too.

Once Byomkesh was brainy truth-seeker but this movie has made him dull muscle man!
Once Ajit was deep-thinking writer but this movie has made him joker!
Once Satyabati was a critic yet supportive and proud of her husband but this movie has made her too annoying!
The cinematography, visuals are good to watch according to budget.
But where is the suspense? A detective movie must have that ingredients so that audience also will start thinking and analysing about the mystery from the beginning of the movie.
A big NO to that as first half is so boring.
Now come to Bengali pronunciation .. Sob jinis sobar dara ki hoi?

"Byomkesh o Durgo Rahasya," directed by Birsa Dasgupta, features a solid cast. The main highlight of the film is Superstar Dev portraying the role of Byomkesh for the very first time. Rukmini Maitra plays the role of Satyabati, and Ambarish Bhattacharya plays Ajit. To be honest, many people are skeptical about the cast. The director has chosen a different approach to depict Byomkesh. "Durga Rahasya" is one of the finest Byomkesh stories by Saradindu Bandopadhyay. In this adaptation, Byomkesh is more adventurous than being a Satyanweshi, reminiscent of Shankar and "Durgo Rahasya." Dev plays his role with utmost sincerity, but Rukmini Maitra seems to be a misfit, with most of her scenes slowing down the pace. Ambarish, as Ajit, comes across more like a comedian than a writer. The other cast members perform their parts well, especially Satyam Bhattacharya. Subhankar Bhar's camera work is a treat to watch, and the locations are picturesque. The background music helps engage the audience. Overall, it provides a great theatrical experience if you don't expect this movie to be a typical Byomkesh film. The highlights of the movie are Byomkesh's introduction scene and the climax. Dev is attempting to introduce something new to his old audience, who love masala flicks. This idea is quite revolutionary. To regain our past glory, we need to attract more audiences to the theater.
Satyavati's presence in the first half made me feel like I was watching an art film rather than a detective movie. Unfortunately, there was no element of suspense or a detective environment in the film. Although the setting was visually appealing, it wasn't utilized to enhance the storytelling. Only in the second half did the storyline start to become clearer, but even then, it lacked excitement. Overall, I wasn't impressed with the movie. After a 10-year hiatus, I finally watched a Bengali movie in the cinema and was disappointed to find that the quality remains unchanged. Very very bad experience.

- AnecdotesThe film was first announced with Parambrata and Rudranil, sequel to their Byomkesh film. But later the project was shelved, but instead went on to become a different Byomkesh film, with Dev and Ambarish playing Byomkesh and Ajit respectively.
