I binge watched both seasons....not because they were so good, but because I couldn't believe they could get any worse. I was mistaken. I can soldier through a mediocre performance by actors trying to hone their craft, but bad writing is unforgivable from someone who has been doing this as long as TP has.....The storyline and plot had potential, but this appears to be a rushed project, similar to Fall from Grace. As a supporter of TP projects I would much prefer quality over quantity. TP has a few projects going at one time, and they all have the characteristics of someone working on their freshman project. I feel like the last decent script was from Why Did I Get Married.
I give it 2 stars because all the actors are attractive, and I think Elder Mother's character is dark and comical at the same time. She brings a little life to the script.

In The Haves, The Oval, and now Ruthless, Tyler's lines go like this:
"Are you going to the store?"
"Yes, I'm going to the store."
"Why are you going to the store?"
"Because I want to"
"Are you sure the store is where you are going?"
" I SAID I was going to the store and that's where I'm going"
"I don't really believe you're going to a store."
"Well then where do you think I'm going?"
Once Tyler stops doing this mess, his shows will be PERFECT. They are entertaining as all hell, but he really should listen to Oprah and hire writers. No offense Tyler, we love you. But stop trying to write your own scripts.

This show is SERIOUSLY lacking. The "acting" is garbage, and I can't wrap my mind around the idea that TP doesn't know that it's garbage. I mean really? How does BET feel about peddling this trash? Do they even care that this type of programming hurts their image? Or does the money drown out the terrible dialogue? As I attempted to watch this series, in stunned silence, I expected Ashton Kutcher to jump out and say that I was being punked. There's no way the positive reviews on here are real. No way!!! Do better TP, do better.
The acting in this show and the dialogue are absolutely atrocious. Each scene just drags on and on and on.
I was rooting for this series especially after the Fall From Grace shortcomings.
Similar to the other reviews the dialogue between characters seem like an after thought. There is a lot of back and forth conversations that take up the scene but go no where and have little to no impact on character development. In addition, the back stories for the characters are non-existent. We want to know who each of the characters are and understand why they are who they are. Flashbacks would be a nice way to provide some insight. In addition, the lack of research about detective work, policing and surveillance is needed to make the context more realistic. I would love to see this show be able to hold a candle to series like Criminal Minds, Power or the Mentalist. This series has a lot of potential but the writing is poor and need to be improved. Tyler Perry often brags about how quickly he writes scripts in his own silo but it is evident that there is not benefit to doing this. A collaboration of writings who can maintain some objectivity, have there own specialty wheelhouses and know how to research may change the game for Tyler's future projects.
Overall however, the storyline is promising and has the potential to be a big hit but the writing and scene development has to come a long way still!
