This tv series isn't for 95% of the population. Don't watch it with your significant other or your kids. If you loved the movie you'll probably laugh your ass off with this show. Enjoy it for what it is... An extension of a movie that's an extension of an SNL skit.
I was going to rate this show an 8, but I just can't denigrate it that much. It made me laugh hard at many moments and I've watched it through several times now (it remains saved for future viewings). Of course Forte is a comedic genius in his own right. I even wish I could rate a 10 but it wasn't quite that perfect of a full season 1.
I found some of the goriness a little more than needed and as much as a fan as I am of this franchise, I still can't quite understand the over-the-top extreme mockery of the original character and TV show from the 80s. But I go with it nonetheless.
Kristen Wiig again delivers as much or more than Forte in this series follow-up to the 2010 movie. Her song at open-night in episode 1 is surprisingly wonderful, touching.
Again, wish I could rate this a 10/10 but there were moments of excessive gore and vulgarity (even) that at times seemed to detract for even the most hardened vet of comedy and horror and whatever.
Still a great series, well worth the watch for viewers with thick skins who are able to understand satire and sarcasm at extreme levels.

Just like the film disengage your brain and have a great laugh and sillyness.
The people here rating it as low as they are obviously didn't watch the film or ever see the character before and went in expecting something very different. Although the credits should have prepared you. Lol.
Anyway just what I needed.

Greatest show on tv right now - my stomach hurts for laughin so hard. This is just like the movie too. I hope they make much more. Everything about this is perfect.
MacGruber is always a little f'D up, and this show a little more raw than the SNL skits! Escapism at least. I'm sure some nay-sayers will come along, but let them escape death as many times as MacGruber has - and most of the people around him haven't. 😄
