Watching a late-night TV show, a guy watches the host prepare the program with several tales of terror being told.
The Good Stor(ies): Galaxy Invader-After hearing reports of a spaceship crashing, a doctor comes to believe an alien has crash-landed on his property. This was a solid enough start to things, with some cheesy work throughout. The idea of the series of incidents and strange encounters around the farm where he lives hinting that something isn't right, from seeing lights in the sky, items being moved around from where they were stored, and the residue left behind that hint at something on his property come off with a nice bit of build. When it goes for the interactions of him stalking the creature and discovering what's going on, this one manages to bring about some genuinely cheesy and silly encounters that might come off at odds with the more serious tone presented elsewhere in the segment but is still enough of a good time to start this off nicely.
A Monster on Campus-Trying to carry out her experiments, a fired scientist accidentally creates a hybrid monster that runs wild. This was a fairly fun feature that was slightly more underwhelming than it should've been. The central setup about the fired scientist loosing her work and career forcing her to extreme measures to save everything and unleashing a monstrous mutation in the process, makes for a charming throwback to the classic era monster movies it tries to homage, not just with the setup but also the presentation due to the black-and-white photography. It ends somewhat abruptly and doesn't have the chance to resolve too many of its issues with the way it comes to a quick close, but that's the main issue here, so long as the cheesy special effects aren't too bothersome.
The Bad Stor(ies): The Freeway Killer-Traveling through the country, a man driving by himself picks up a hitchhiker in the middle of a crime spree by a serial killer. This one wasn't too bad but does have some issues. The main idea here is decent enough and manages to feature some intriguing work detailing his neurotic tendencies at the diner and setting out on the highway where the two come together for their trip where everything starts falling apart as it becomes far clearer that someone might be following them. As this plays nicely on the idea of the serial killer loose on the highway, these scenes are quite chilling, with the interactions providing enough intriguing work that the final twist is enjoyable. It does get overbearing with the constant narration, making him whiny and even more unlikable over time, but it's serviceable enough overall.
