Brilliantly directed, with superb acting, fabulous cinematography and a mostly funny and engaging script.
The CGI is as good as it gets, and makes the allegedly 'real' Moon missions of the 1960's (&later!) look like the shoddy fakes they certainly were.
Parts of this film reminded me of THE QUITE EARTH (1985) Australian sci-fi film.
However- The last 15minutes is very disappointing, it becomes clenchingly predictable and mawkish, and for that reason I would give this an 8 and half out of 10.
In fact the last 15minutes is full of all sorts of problems and makes you look back on the film less endearingly - as a type of glossy 'fake-space' propaganda for NASA/JAXA/ESA etc...
Nothing could go through meteorite fragments without being shredded in the process (like the unbelievable boring junk of the GRAVITY film).
The whole PREMISE of this film is unbelievable, so you can start watching knowing it is a FANTASY, not a realistic portrayal of any space station possibility. The main characters suit would be no use if any micrometeorites or shrapnel hit it, yet we can suspend our disbelief enough to enjoy the tale of his ordeal, and his slapstick relationship with a KANGEROO all as some escapist FUN..... so why ruin the ending with a stereotyped and disappointing 'climax'? Maybe producer pressure? Although I'd imagine they'd push for the opposite conclusion.
Maybe to avoid any 'awkward encounters'; as the main moon man is actually a bit of a 'creepy' obsessive character, cast in the mold of the Jerry lee Lewis/ Norman Wisdom loser/goon/fall guy, which you'd imagine has run its course by now, yet seems more persistent than ever in 'media-land'.

Definitely top class a sci-fi comedy movie, the movie effects about the moon and space are professional in comedy movie field. Most of the time comedy movie will not put too much effort on the effects cause they want to make some good punchline, but this movie done both so excellent. It's not the traditional comedy that makes you laugh from start to end, it also have moving parts that make you want to cry! But careful! Laughing parts is coming right after moving parts that stop you feeling sad lol.
I had never heard about this 2022 Chinese sci-fi comedy movie titled "Du Xing Yue Qiu" (aka "Moon Man") before sitting down to watch it here in 2023. So I didn't know what I was in for here, and I didn't really have much of any expectations. However, the movie's synopsis sounded interesting enough, plus the fact that it was an Asian movie that I hadn't already seen, was more than sufficient to make me sit down and watch it.
Writers Chiyu Zhang, Chenguang Qian, Si'ao Dai, Yuyue Shen and Seok Jo put together a really enjoyable and entertaining script and storyline. And I will say that I was more than genuinely entertained throughout the course of the 122 minutes that the movie ran for. Thumbs up to the writers on the script that they conjured up for "Du Xing Yue Qiu".
I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, though I have to say that leading actor Teng Shen (playing Yue) put on a stellar performance and really carried the movie quite well. The entire cast in the movie put on good jobs, thought it was mostly Teng Shen on the screen.
The kangaroo that joined Yue on the screen was also a very lovable character and one that also came to play a big part in the movie. It had so much character and personality that you just can't help but love it.
There is a good amount of comedy, thrills, excitement and character development throughout the 122 minutes that the movie ran for, and director Chiyu Zhang really managed to utilize these elements rather well to build up the story and the characters.
Visually then "Du Xing Yue Qiu" was quite amazing. The special effects and CGI in the movie really were great and added a lot to the overall presentation of the movie. I was really impressed with how great the CGI looked and how realistic it looked. Sure, there were some issues about how gravity, or rather the low gravity, on the moon works, but hey, it wasn't a science-fact movie, now was it?
Regardless of whether you enjoy Chinese cinema or not, then "Du Xing Yue Qiu" is a sci-fi comedy that is well worth sitting down and spending 122 minutes on watching. It really is an amazing surprise of a movie, not to mention a really enjoyable movie as well.
This is without a doubt a movie that I warmly recommend you to sit down and watch, should you get the opportunity to do so. I am not normally overly keen on sci-fi movies in general, but I really genuinely enjoyed this movie from director Chiyu Zhang.
My rating of director Chiyu Zhang's 2022 movie "Du Xing Yue Qiu" lands on an nine out of ten stars.

I didn't expect to like this movie, but it was actually very fun to watch.
It felt like it was on the brink of being unfunny, but still remained funny, which is much more than most movies that I've seen this year. This movie also was moving, but it did feel a bit blown out of proportion.
I actually enjoyed all the stuff with Kong, which i expected to be extremely annoying and stupid.
It was just a fun little movie to watch, that may feel extremely long. For some reason, this film felt like it was like 3 hours long, which was fine, since it was an enjoyable experience.
I would give this a 7/10.

The storyline is quite interesting! The movie is filled with happiness and sadness which touches one's heart very much!
The pace is good! Funny things come and go to keep your boredom away! So even though it's a 122 -minute movie, with the random jokes, you jz don't feel that long at all!
I am impressed by the CGI of the China's production team! All things on the moon and space look so real and so good! China's special effects in movies are rather mature now!
The funny parts are simple and natural, while not the Steven Chow's kinds that are over-done or over-acted. As such, I enjoyed it very much!
Even though the Kangaroo may look rather extra and is a nuisance at the beginning, you will get to accept it and value it at last.
I love the sentimental and human-value of this movie! It touches one's heart very much!
I gave 8 out of 10. It's definitely worth your money watching the cinemas! Trust me, you wouldn't enjoy it if you watch from your TV BOX or LAPPY!! You got to watch it in the cinema in order to enjoy it! Go, Go, Go!!
