Billy the Kid is obviously a series based on the infamous outlaw, William H. Bonney a.k.a. Billy the Kid. This series tries to give you a fresh take on Billy's story, it shows him as more of the good guy than the gunslinging outlaw we all know him as. They actually make Billy into a sympathetic figure. Listen, Emilio Estevez from Young Guns will always be my favorite Billy the Kid but Tom Blyth does a really good job here as Billy. Daniel Weber also does a great job as Jesse Evans. The way they show their close friendship and how they ended up on different sides is worth watching. The first season is mostly an origin story of how William H. Bonney became the outlaw Billy the kid. The second season is so full of action and story it's hard to stop watching.

Had I not seen the advertisement on television for this series I would not have watched it, but I am on season one episode eight and it's great. It is hard to do set design for an old western let alone two seasons, with multiple episodes shot at different locations to take place in New Mexico, Kansas, Mexico, etc. And they have done a very good job, the acting is really good, the storyline is good even if you think you know the William Bonnie story, there's a slant to this, that I won't divulge, but it has peaked my interest enough for me to now be looking for the correct book to read with the supposed most accurate details.

I just finished Season 2 of Billy the Kid and was entertained throughout the entire series so far. This series takes a few episodes to really get going but once it did I binged right through it. So if you didn't enjoy the first couple episodes just stay with...it's worth it. I'm glad MGM+ renewed this because there is so much to Billy the Kid that one season wasn't enough. They could even go several more seasons with all the material on him that's out there. The actor who plays Billy is Tom Blyth and he gives one of the best Billy the Kid performances I've ever seen. Blyth also just starred in The Hunger Games prequel and has a very bright future in Hollywood. I have to admit that I'm a big fan of westerns so I'd probably enjoy this no matter what but it really is a solid show that I think most people will enjoy.

The show is phenomenal! Do not listen to the bad reviews. I repeat do not listen to the bad reviews. This is a good adaptation to the Billy the Kid story. There is lots of controversy about what really happened to Billy the Kid. Some say he was killed by Pat Garrett and others say him Pat Garrett and other officials made a deal with Billy the Kid and basically faked his death. So the writers can pretty much go in any direction they want to with this show. And it is extremely well written and extremely well acted. I am blown away by the show. I rank it up there with 1921 and Yellowstone. It's that good! It might even be better in its own right. Do yourself a favor and watch this series. You will not be disappointed. Thank you MGM! And please give us a season 3!

I got hooked on watching Billy the Kid. Outstanding acting, filming and writing of great episodes that leave you at the edge of your seat.. Definitely binge worthy. I am impressed on how the writers of the episodes tell the story of just how corrupt the powerful ranch owners were and how Billy fought against that corruption. The "law'' was often an arm of the corrupt businessmen. Billy, sometimes, made poor decisions, like the one that teamed him up with his friend, Jessie, to rustle cattle as he first decided to become a criminal. I can't wait for season 3. I am interested to research just how accurate the historical events of his life that was depicted in the series. But I will wait until the conclusion of the story. Many years ago I visited Lincoln, New Mexico and stood in the historic courthouse where Billy was held in custody. Tom Blyth portrays Billy as a very likable outlaw who, because of his marksmanship, became a key player in the violent history of Lincoln, New Mexico.

The series has been entertaining and enjoyable. From the scenery to the acting, everything was done well. Similar story to the Young Guns movie in a positive way. Only negative, the session 2 mid break. It's an 8 episode series and they take how many months off after only 4 episodes. Hopefully they at least finish season 2 before summer but like Yellowstone, these "mid season" breaks are another example of corporate greed. Please don't mention the writers strike as that's simply more greed. They are all guilty of the greed. Glad i binged this because I'm done giving these streaming providers more money!

Billy The Kid really puts into perspective that things aren't as black and white as they are portrayed. It begs the question: is Billy The Kid really a good person? Tom Blyth's performance as Billy The Kid really captures the essence of his character well. You can see just how remorseful Kid Antrim is for the things he's done. Daniel Webber and the guy who played Henry Antrim did a fantastic job at making me angry. It sucks that they left us on such a cliffhanger with the reintroduction of Pat Garrett and I'm so excited for the rest of season 2. A lot of people say that it fell short with the historical aspect of things and I agree there but all in all, it's an entertaining and intriguing show about the life of a famous outlaw, Billy The Kid.

A lot of accurate story reeling and some really small details that you don't often see or read about. But also a lot of artist. License and story that doesn't need to be there in my opinion.
And if you're going to add some of these details that we don't see in other films it be great if they were as accurate as lisps pile instead of changing characters. And adding in some characters feels totally unnecessary:
I get using artistic license and that some parts of the story have numerous versions. Just wish the most accepted version was represented here.
Overall set and costume design are great and the acting is pretty good though the dialogue is a bit off feeling sometimes.
Worth viewing but a bit frustrating.

If you are looking for a good western, look no further. This is not only entertaining, but if you do the homework you'll find it is mostly historical fiction. The characters and events of this show are based on true facts and it was a bit of ? As to why the creators weren't marketing this more. They did take the time to duplicate almost all the known facts of Billy and weave them into a heck of a story. We watch Billy grow from a young boy to one of the most notorious outlaws in the American West. Billy the Kid...Anti-Hero. Well done all around and absolutely worth the time, double up on your go-to speed if you're a fan of Westerns and/or historical fiction.

An entertaining and well-made adaptation of the life and times of Billy the Kid. The style is ruggedly realistic, wonderfully depicting the harsh unfairness of life. The beauty of the landscape is in stark contrast to the selfish exploitation by the 'haves' of the 'have-nots'.
Outstanding performances from Eileen O'Higgins, Jonah Collier and Tom Blyth, collectively portraying the close bond of a mother-son relationship.
The opening episode sets the scene brilliantly, despite a sluggish step. Subsequently the pace picks up, delivering a fascinating action-packed story with some fabulous dialogue and gorgeous cinematography. Highly recommended viewing.

It's not over theatrical but has just enough action to keep you entertained, the lead actor plays Billy as a likeable outlaw with many layers which keeps you constantly guessing. I'm sure a lot of it is not factually correct but then again the history books don't tell you an awful lot so it's open to interpretation.
If you're a fan of Yellowstone and the other series from that story then I'm sure you'll appreciate this series as it touches on some similar story lines with cattle wars and ranchers.
I'll be starting season 2 straight away, it's been a real enjoyable watch and not overly complicated.

I'm, generally, enjoying the series and don't have the same complaints as others. I'm not a Billy-the-Kidofile so am not troubled by historical embellishments and I'm ok with the pacing.
Here's my complaint: we are told that Billy has deep and complex relationships with various other characters such as Jesse Evans, Melquiade Segura and Barbara but we aren't really shown it. Jesse is, potentially, the most interesting of these characters but he never rises above caricature. Yet, much of the story is driven by the assumption of authentic, dynamic relationships between Billy and these others. Instead, their interactions are flat ... no spark ... no chemistry. As a result, the various loyalties make no sense.
Also, Billy's insistence that he doesn't want to kill just before he kills gets a bit tiresome after a while. (Potential for a viewer drinking game?)
Billy the Kid is not unwatchable - it's competent story telling - it just never moves you the way you want it to.

If you're looking for a good rendition of the Billy the Kid story this isn't it. It's not only slow AF they've also taken any and all edge out of the character. Throughout the 4 eps, which is all there are ATM, Billy is out drawn in literally every conflict and he's apparently incapable of violence even when it's fully justified. It's unfortunate because the series is well acted & produced. Their only mistake was co-opting the Billy the Kid legend. Call it something else and rename that character and they may have something.

Unjustified criticism and negativity. A lot of people comment already after 2-3 episodes?? The series is more than good. The series is excellently made, and the actors are top notch. I think the audience really goes to the extreme with the comments. Especially on that drawing out of the past!? These what they give grades 1-2 is very frivolous. If you were to do a story about your life, it would be anything, but not to extract a historical figure and look for perfection. You are looking for a hair in the egg and everyone would like some realism...pure exaggeration. I only know that the series holds attention , the actors are more than excellent and that is the most important thing.

Having a little trouble understanding some of the negative reviews, because this is by any measure a well-crafted western series with terrific location scenes, authentic costuming and terrific acting from lead Tom Blyth and the entire supporting cast. Much of the first couple of episodes involved Billy's early life, which given the sketchy record remains somewhat speculative, but while the particulars can be questioned the overall circumstances of his upbringing it depicts are pretty close to what we know. This is not a documentary, and it doesn't pretend to be; it's a historical drama. But as a western history buff it seems to me that it's coming closer to the actual historical Billy than most prior films, much as "Tombstone" did with Wyatt Earp, despite some dramatic license. Billy was not the bloodthirsty killer depicted in dime novels. His first two killings are accurately depicted here as self-defense, and the Lincoln Co. War was a bloody mess all around, with the Kid getting the short-end of the stick from the crooked ring politicians running the state the second an armistice was declared. Much of the hyped legend of Billy comes from Pat Garrett's book, which was obviously intended to make Billy look bigger, badder and more vicious than he was in order to inflate Garrett's role in ending his career. Although that hasn't been treated yet by the series, there appear to be intimations of that in the early interactions between Garrett and the Kid in this movie. In any event, if you want pure history, go to a library and do research. But if you're looking for a good western with a gritty reflection of the times, top production values and terrific acting, this is a series you shouldn't miss.

It was alright. I didn't think it was as slow as other people were saying but i enjoyed it enough to watch it all the way through. It's definitely not accurate but still interesting enough to watch.

Absolutely phenomenal production, casting, and a job well done by the whole crew. Tom Blyth is an incredible actor, and I enjoy watching him portray this character. He makes you empathize with the character and truly root for him. With an understanding of his childhood, you really see him battle with the innocence he has left through the series. The on-screen portrayal of this was 10/10. Its incredible when an actor can show you what their inner dialogue/thought might be without verbally saying it. I'm not sure how accurately the series expects to portray the story of Billy the Kid, but I would love to see more seasons of this story. One of my favorite western shows.

Historicaly accurate Billy the kid series! Absolutely stunning simulation of New Mexico scenery, since the disappointing revelation that it was all filmed in Alberta,Canada. I wondered why there were so many birch trees in the scenes in the desert ...Each and every episode however is action packed from start to finish! Lots a killing, but such was life back then!
The cast in this series is uncanny the resemblance to the figures they play. Lots of actors who you will love to hate!!! Can not get enough of this show and my only hope is that they receive these grand reviews. Please MGM renew this show and don't hesitate!!

I really enjoyed the first season, I thought the pace was just right with a good amount of action but a good story line running through it. It may not be historically accurate but no one's knows the exact accuracy of that time really anyway.
The actor playing Billy is great, and hopefully we'll get to see more of a lighter side to him in season 2 as well as the brooding serious side we had in season 1. The supporting cast in general is pretty decent, I see why some reviews have criticised some of the acting in parts but the main cast is great as far as I'm concerned.
Basically it's worth a watch and as each episode finishes you'll want to press play on the next one.

I'm an old west fan. Billy the kid is one of my favorites. Not much is known about his early years. Most is speculation. The show moves a little slow but is great. They do take some liberties with how things happened in Lincoln according to history. That happens with all shows or movies. The acting is solid. I never heard of Tom Blyth (Billy) before but he is doing a great job in my opinion.

I started watching this series and it catches your attention right away. Once you get to the 3rd or 4th episode, the action slows a bit, but also, if you don't speak Spanish, you have no idea what they are saying, because the subtitles just stop while the Spanish is spoken. Half of the next two episodes was in Spanish, so I almost stopped watching. I gave it another episode to keep me watching. There was a bit of Spanish in this one including an important dialogue from Billy, but I will give it one more episode to keep me watching. Hopefully, the is issues becomes less of a problem, because I would like to see the rest of the series.

This series is longer than Billy's actual life was, and a lot more boring. Take out the name of "Billy the Kid" and all you have left is a boring romance series.
Most of the actual facts from Billy the Kid's life and his family are ignored or just fabricated, so this is really not the story of "Billy the Kid," it is just a romance novel set in the Old West with a generic cowboy.
Sad, but it seems like Billy the Kid never gets a decent break, except when Paul Newman played him in "The Left-Handed Gun."

Billy The Kid is an MGM series that stars Tom Blyth as William Bonney about the early years and upbringing of an Irish boy who turns to be the infamous gunslinger. Michael Hirst co-wrote and created this series also was the person behind Vikings. The storyline is loosely based around the life and travels of Billy from Texas to New Mexico to Mexico. The first season ends up on a high note trapped between two rival merchants. Daniel Webber plays Jesse Evans who was Billy's best friend when they fist started out. This was a good old western with a great cast, I highly recommend it. Can't wait to see what the second season brings to the small screen.
