This movie playfully answers the question "what happens when the non-beautiful people become vampires?"
Think of it as an updated Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but with multicultural stars. Most notably, a Fil-Am star, which is a very welcome and long-overdue change.
In this world, vampires are only supposed to convert new vampires who are beautiful, fit, svelte, cool, sophisticated. Enter Reginald -- the fat, awkward, unfit, remarkably un-athletic, uber-nerdy incel fast-food worker with no prospects. By a stroke of fortune and misfortune, Reginald gets turned. And the rest of the vamp community don't dig it.
Sure, this has Hallmarkish tones, and the dialogue and situations seem aimed to teens and 20somethings, but the series starts well, is funny, with some vampy coolness. Reginald is funny, albeit a shade too whiny, and incessantly whiny. Just when you think you can't stand it, it's revealed that there's more to Reginald than his girth.

First, I read all the reviews, and they are underwhelming, to be honest. So I thought what a shame, I really like shows about vampires... Then I thought, to hell with it, why not try it out myself. So I watched the first episode and liked it, and then all the 7 episodes, which are out right now. And I don't regret a thing!
The characters are likeable, and the show doesn't bore me like most do nowadays, it's quite fun to watch. I don't get where all the hate comes from, I haven't even noticed any obvious and annoying agenda moments, which is good in my book.
Overall, I get bored easily, and this show does entertain me enough for me to write this review to dissuade others from overlooking Reginald's story! Of course, it's not perfect, but what is? The most important thing is, if you enjoy it or not.

I do not understand half of these reviews ripping this show apart. It is a dumb quirky show and I have a hard time believing it's trying to be anything other than just that. It's really just a show about a Reginald learning to be a vampire and an adult at the same time. The acting in the show is not any game changing masterpiece and that's okay. It's funny and easy to watch on a rainy day while you do chores or little hobbies. The story line is interesting but easy to digest there's a little horror but it's all just a little quirky. These days people either want sitcoms or thought provoking shows that feel like movies. What happened to all the shows in the middle? I miss just enjoying lighthearted shows.
This is a fun, light hearted show. It's a comedy, that you're not meant to take too seriously. And, you can have this on in the background while doing something or watch it while winding down for bed.
It's not perfect, but it's fun. Is it fresh and something brand new? Not really. Does that make it terrible? Hell, no. How many of us have rewatched TV shows cause we liked it? Or watched something that's similar cause we're in the mood. Not everything needs to be the new best thing. Sometimes, we just want silly fun. And this delivers on the silly fun.
In fact, I just finished one episode that introduced a new character and had me crying out that I wanted the next episode already.
I would really give it a 7/10, but boosting by a star to help combat the review bombers. I honestly have no idea why this is receiving them.

First episode and it seems like a good fun show. It had me engaged and interested in what would happen next to Jacob Batalon's Reginald.
Good to see him in a leading role, but still bringing the comedy.
Mandela Van Peebles gives me young Mario Van Peebles vibes. So far he seems like a good choice to play the mysterious vampire mentor.
Reginald's daily experience seems quite realistic as well and shows the type of experiences people like him go through.
Hopefully the rest of the series keeps up this type of momentum and we get to see some interesting things happen for Reginald, Maurice and the rest of their mates.
