Using the same format as the smash US series, Joe Kenda Homicide Hunter, Ron Iddles, ex super detective talks directly to camera as he relates cases he has worked on.
Just like the US series, it consists of interviews with participants, real photos, re-enactments, and Ron's pieces to camera. In this first episode, this version also included footage from news stories of the time and also showed Ron at one of the real locations, something the US show did not do.
While Ron does not have the charisma of Joe Kendra, he does possess a honest and down to earth personality. In other words, he's a no nonsense Aussie. There's no ramping up the showbiz aspect. (I suspect the producers tried but Ron is Ron).
In any regard, the show was very well produced, non exploitative and fascinating. It was equally horrifying too.
As of this review, only one episode has gone to air, but if they maintain this same format, there's no reason why it couldn't run for multiple seasons like the US show did. With a long career, there are many stories Ron could tell.
I read Ron's book too, The Good Cop, which is well worth your time. It was perhaps that book which led to this.
We hope that there are more people like Ron working in the force today but there is only one Ron Iddles.
