The Octonauts

My daughter LOVES this show (she is two and a half). She names all of the animals while we are watching it, and if she sees those animals on other shows she names them then too. She has a blast at the aquarium. I appreciate this show because it includes females in science roles, which is nice for my daughter to be exposed to (Go Tweak and Dashii!).

A wonderful programme that appeals to children of all ages - hell, even I enjoy watching it and that's saying something considering most children's programmes drive me insane. The episodes are informative without being boring, exciting without being frightening, and witty without being crude. The writing is intelligent, and doesn't resort to the easy and dull 'goodies vs baddies' scenario adopted by so many other cartoons. I even love the choice of voices (Scouse for the Walrus) & music (sitar for a very relaxed shark). To top it all, my 3 year old now has an encyclopedic knowledge of sea creatures that probably surpasses most adults' ...Afterall, did you know that Cookie Cutter Sharks eat their own teeth? No? Neither did I.

So I have a little brother and he discovered this show (he's 4) in the spring of 2020 during quarantine, through that time this has become his favorite show. He will, without fail, quote his favorite lines from the likes of Peso, Quasi, and especially Barnacles. Jeez, even I, at 14, still enjoy watching Octonauts with my brother, I take it as one of my guilty pleasures. It is a children's show that doesn't talk down to its audience and remains educational and comedic.

This show is a work of art. It combines education, gripping action and comedy to create one of, it not the best, show in the 21st century It will become a modern classic, it's a seminal pieces of work
