Some movies don't need a strong backstory to be fun and entertaining, and BackSpace, a sci-fi short film with a runtime of under seven minutes, is one of them. The real fun comes from spotting all the influences of iconic sci-fi movies in this short story. And oh boy, there are plenty.

The influence of Star Wars is immediately apparent, from the opening credits to the music, sound effects, and the overall environment in the early scenes-it feels like the story is unfolding on Tatooine. Meanwhile, the main character wears armor straight out of Halo, while his robot companion and the mission goal of finding a black hole seem inspired by the 1979 film Black Hole. Further, the influence of Stargate is unmistakable-even the music in the latter parts is almost directly lifted from it.

And that's not all-you'll quickly notice that this short film is packed with nods to sci-fi blockbusters. All in all, it's a fun and entertaining watch that takes up only a few minutes of your time.

Seductive for atmosphere . Simple story. Fair construction of tension and open end. A planet and the care for found a pod. A very useful robot and the relation of friendship with pilot. A menacing and adventure in pure state.
