Wow! I have been surprised AND delighted with watching several SUPERB Korean action crime movies the last couple of weeks and I must declare (!) that the South Korean directors and writers and actors are absolute masters at making these intense, true to life, riveting and dramatic gangster flicks!
The good: all these actors were (formerly) completely unknown to me, but what terrific acting performances they delivered, what charismatic actors they are, what great chemistry they have got. There are so many things to praise about this movie that is completely overlooked however on Imdb (with only 5 reviews!) Incredible!
Please somebody, anybody out there in the world of cinema distribution, please (RE)release these magnificent Korean crime dramas to the Western movie audience. They will LOVE it. They will EAT it up. Such high quality crime dramas! With only so few people who have seen it. ( I can only put blame on the terrible Corona epidemic with it's theatres closed for years for this dreadful lack of worldwide distribution)
Any bad? No! However the basic storyline of "A man of Reason" isnt particularly original, because this (father saves daughter) story has been told many times before, BUT the way in which it is told is simply superb! With true to life dialogues, with nailbiting supsenseful plot turns, with riveting over the top action and with a magnificent direction of such high quality.
I am in AWE!
Bravo!

"Come back when you are normal and good," says the love of his life. After ten years in prison, Su-hyuk is ready to be the person that she wants and to live a normal life. However, the bar that she set is a whole lot lower than the one set by his former employer. When Su-hyuk spurns their offer of a bag full of cash and a new BMW, they send assassins to take his life. Failing in this, the would-be assassins put pressure on his lover and daughter. This is not a good move for anyone involved.
Construction sites and high-rises on the outskirts of Seoul become the battlegrounds for Su-hyuk and his micromanaging and highly possessive bosses in this cathartic action thriller. Jung Woo-sung is both the director and lead actor. The action sequences are unique as well as exhilarating. Vehicles, for instance, are used not just for crash scenes, but to knock people over. A turbo charged BMW carries more of a punch than a fist or a foot! Seen at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Tagged as Jung woo sung directorial debut after a hiatious career reigning as a prominent action star of Korean films does a decent outing though the visuals are captivating & the fight sequence takes a lead of what usual Korean films does is ain't a problem...
What forms the major drawback is the age old plot of similar gangster saga which the Koreans have attained supremacy...
Despite a strong methodical performance from Lee Elijah,Park sung wong(well known for his negative shade) park yoo na & Kim nam Gil director Jung solely relies on action stunts & performance oriented flick forgetting that its a screenplay that holds the soul of gangster movies...
Overall an above average outing for Jung woo as a director...

Watching the trailer might give you the impression that the entire movie is Jung Woo-sung's personal hero show. However, when you actually watch the film, you'll realize it's more like the John Wick series, where people with a criminal past, once they get caught up in conflicting values, please watch this movie with a clear mind. Just like what the big brother said at the beginning of the movie, after a long time, you start to hope that those who've been caught never get out of jail. This sentence really captures the reality of the underworld. Those who come out after serving time might not become bigger players; they often end up as a thorn in the side of the current bosses, and remember, to retire from the underworld, one would need to lose their memory. Don't ever think that the mafia values benevolence and righteousness; the mafia is all about dictatorship.
It's a South Korean drama film, and Bohoja means "Guardian," which, in my opinion, doesn't quite capture the protagonist's situation. He was kept from fatherhood for 10 years (he was in prison). The non-linear script and the very similar faces really confused me, which significantly hampered the analysis and the entertainment-good, but not what it could have been...
After spending a decade in prison, a hitman discovers he has a daughter and just wants a chance at a normal life. But his former mafia boss wants him back at any cost, sending ruthless assassins after him.
