Review bombed
When I first saw the rating for the show, it was sitting at a 1.0. Hopefully that has changed by then but it definitely had me curious. When they first announced this, I was sold. It'd been a couple of years now, but Sam Mendes? HBO? The plot was intriguing enough to warrant a check-out. I only feel implored as to not let this sink by the wayside. Only one episode in but it's a very solid pilot. If you have any mild interest in the film industry or any basic understanding of the toxic culture I'm sure they'll be something for you to enjoy. I could only see the negative reviews as a way of self-defensive mechanism but they show the Warner Brothers logo itself so clearly they're comfortable making fun of themselves. I could also see the complaint of everybody just being horrible people but again it's so early to tell and I think there's enough serviceable characters to make way for something more personal.
So great! How has this flown so under the radar?!!
Discovered this gem while googling the Avenue 5 cancelation - I am now baffled I had not heard of it, as it is a perfect intersection of my taste/interests. Perhaps it is TOO effective in skewering the superhero genre and thus has not promoted properly?! Mystified. Surely destined for cult status and eventual revival. So CUTTING, funny and painfully incisive about where we are at as a culture. The writing is razor sharp. The characters are recognisable to anyone who's ever stepped foot on a set and so skilfully drawn. The cast are superb- every performance is perfection. Richard E Grant steals every scene he's in- Daniel Bruhl and Himesh Patel are note perfect and (omg) Darren Goldstein is sooo effectively odious. Not to mention the buoyant Lolly Adefope (another character I am certain I have met irl), the utterly convincing Aya Cash and the hilarious Jessica Hynes. Honestly want to list the entire cast by name. Such a treat. Thanks Jon Brown!! You are a talent!!
Pretty good
Awesome studio type show with awesome techno music and goofy actors within actors not to bad fun entertainment! Surprised the low rating on IMDb at least plenty appreciate The Franchise. I love the cast so much especially Himesh Patel, Billy M, and most everyone else is lovely; I wish I could hangout in a cinema studio it seems so great. The humor is great, the writing is pretty smooth, fairly intriguing and magnificent entertainment value truly deserves better ratings! Delightful series for the most part but hbo is lacking on better shows except The Penguin that is a pure masterpiece - I would understand hate this show is a little chaotic/cheesy.
Show says what it wants to say in first episode, but still grows on you...
I was "with it" for a brief period, and even to me, I feel out of place laughing at some of the show's jokes about situations I have not personally been in. The show centers around an Assistant Director, which unfortunately gives its viewers a bit of imposter syndrome as pretty much none of us have actually been Directors or Producers on multi-hundred dollar superhero production.
That said, the more I watch the show, the more I have grown to like it. Episode 3 may be the best yet for nailing the subject matter, albeit there is nothing particularly new about its social commentary on misogyny in MCU, nor is the satire in the least bit subdued. It is what it is: Lighthearted laughter through parody. I will continue to watch the show, as it's easy viewing and at least good for several laughs. My recommendation is watch at least a few episodes before deciding if it's for you.

If you'd worked on a film set you might laugh at this.
Not sure exactly who this show is for exactly. I've watched a few movies about making movies and they were also comedies. Movies like One Cut of the Dead, Living in Oblivion those are very funny movies while simultaneously makes me wonder why I ever want to work in the industry (though I have no plans on stopping). This show does have its funny moments, again if you've worked on a set you'll definitely relate to this. My favorite moments are the "actors" Richard E Grant plays a prestigious theatre actor who hates his co star played by Billy Magnussen. They were the standout of this episode
Not sure if this show is going to have much to say about the industry other than producers getting in the way of directors but I am interested in where it's gonna go.

- AnecdotesThe genesis of the series originated from a lunch between executive producers Sam Mendes and Armando Iannucci. The two were initially sharing ideas for a potential collaboration but nothing came to pass. It wasn't until Mendes shared his experiences making the James Bond films 007 Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015) to Iannucci, which he described as "magnificent chaos", that led to the idea of the series, with Jon Brown being hired as showrunner.
