The Descent

It's a shame this flick degenerates into Bible-bashing codswallop - absent the Jesus fetishism it could've been a perfectly serviceable bit of modern-day, b-movie silliness.

You can overlook some of the budget editing. The unresolved plot lines, laboured acting, film school script... all forgivable in the right hands. Hell, even the monster costumes would've added to the charm if this movie didn't take itself so damn seriously.

But, oh boy, does this movie take itself seriously. And that's the problem with ham-fisted attempts to smuggle religion into entertainment under the guise of a budget horror flick. Into any movie, really. Religion should be the vehicle for the story, not the other way around. Even the Bible got that balance right better than this film.

There were nice space shots, okayish vibes like a cult was gonna be the main story and bam! It's about the end times. It's not like left behind or other very Christian movies but it embraces the supernatural elements of the Bible to explain its silly monsters. Yes the monsters are silly. I guess I should turn off the autoplay function on tubi, but last night it played 2012 with Cusack and that was pretty good! Two hundred characters left. 2012 also has woody Harrelson, Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt, Danny Glover, and the John billingsly from star trek. Anyway, the descent is difficult to recommend.
