If you watched Minnal Murali, you prolly know about Basil Joseph.
JJJH is a movie about domestic violence in simple terms. BUT it's unlike your sob story kind of movie where you simply feel pity for the main character.
JJJH is witty, funny, and at times a little sad. But never for once will it make you settle down. You will notice all the ironical details about patriarchy in society and how domestic violence has been normalized for years. But all of these have been done in a not-preachy way.
There's this hilarious scene with a woman clad in Burqa and she is asking the other character to ask her husband how much freedom she enjoys...with the context of the film, it just gets absolutely hilarious. JJJH is phenomenally well-written.
And my word who knew Basil Joseph could portray a negative character in such a beautiful manner.
8.5/10 for me.
It was well worth the trouble of going to cinemas for a night show.
Do watch it folks if it eventually comes to cinemas or OTT.
More power to Malayalam films. At this point my expectations are too high for whatever they make.

After watching several Malayalam movies and "Palthu Janwar" (translated hindi name). I an fan of Malayalam cinema...
Now about Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey.. I didn't want the movie to end what a nice story line ..kept me captured the whole time .. every men and women should watch this.
Showing the harsh reality with the tadka of humor which made the movie quite fanatic to think upon .
It showed the real faces whether it was the husband or the family of the bride. Sweet and tangy slap to the male dominating society we are living in.
The funniest part was the wresting commentary which was hilarious. On the contrary the emotional part was the duration protagonist aka antagonist trying to be sweeter to his wife and she came to know his plan.

Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey (Oh Win, Win, Win, Win) is a laugh riot that came out of nowhere. From the opening sequence, the film is clear in its ambition. To break open the systemic, sticky gender bias we all preserve in our daily lives. And from there, it goes deeper to flesh out related themes of domestic abuse, inequality, and matrimonial issues. And never does it stop pumping the humour while making statements about marriage and its typical workings. It's almost a satire but hits so hard that families watching this are bound to laugh out loud and then go back home to introspect. A wonderful cast doing a wonderful job is so rare and a laugh riot of this stature hasn't been done in the last decade in Malayalam movies.
This satire on the familiar theme, highlighting a very important issue stands out for incredible writing. Kudos to the team for using humor the best way possible without taking away the seriousness of the core issue. Jayabharathi (Darshana Rajendran) hailing from a patriarchal family, is raised without any freedom, sacrificing her choices at each phase of her life. Even her marriage to Rajesh (Basil Joseph) is not her decision. All her life, she only had the men to decide for her, never asking for her opinion. When her husband pushes her to the extreme, her retaliation is what sets this movie apart big time.
As serious the main plot is, the screenplay constantly throws stand out scenes that are high on entertainment. The humor works like a gem and in my show itself, we just kept clapping and hooting non-stop. The pace does get slow in the third act but the climax is rewarding. Both Darshana & Basil Joseph come out with laudable performances, firmly aided by the supporting cast. I wouldn't say it went over the top because those scenes alone were an asset.

The trailer for this film reminded me of The Great Indian Kitchen (a brilliant film about women's empowerment that you SHOULD watch) from the same industry. I thought, "Interesting. Curious to see HOW you're gonna tell this story, since it's already been told."
Fam, this was very different from TGIK. Jaya Hey takes a comedic approach to the storytelling and it really worked. I was afraid how they were gonna tackle a serious topic with a serious message, but just as it is the case with almost every Malayalam film, they've pulled it off.
The plot is simple, Jaya has aspirations in life. Wants to go to college, and do her own thing. The society has other plans for her. Married life is not what she thought it would be. Things fall apart and you can guess what the rest of the film is about.
The lead actors - great acting!! Story - kept it simple, life of an avg Indian housewife kinda plot - stuff that you'd have seen/heard of/watched in daily life. Writing - great!! There are two twists in the film that you won't see coming.
If TGIK was too serious of a film and too hard hitting for your liking, this is brilliant and you'll enjoy this, and I don't think that the comedic take takes away anything from the serious message at all. You'll enjoy this one.
