If only major brands could be this honest (no pun intended with the latter sounding words)... but this one on KFC and its main figure Colonel Sanders (hilariously
played by John Goodman) tells things exactly like it is when it comes to embracing and supporting diversity related to the LGBT community. It's a trend for quite
some time, almost any major company does these days and I'm a little torn apart with such declaration of principles - not the one shown in the skit since Colonel
says exactly how far he can go with such support ("I might even be gay!") or even bashing other companies that aren't so liberal. But in reality, I'm a little torn
because it's a fashionable thing to appeal to wider audiences and get plenty of money back - I can only accept similar endorsements when the company shows that they
are inclusive in their working locations as well - behind the scenes and the ones destined to public.
But it works as way to see how the opposite turns out to be, like when hater Anita Bryant managed to get a boycott on the orange juice
she promoted in the 1970's because of her anti-gay crusade. As of today, love wins!
This spoof is special exactly because it reveals the true nature behind the companies endorsing LGBT while promoting the brand - and here, a group of gays gather up to have a lovely dinner with Sanders,
as he proudly speaks about his initiative - that also has some dark bits in some monologues. The money, why not? But Goodman/Sanders uses more than just that, he provides details and comparisons
that are really accurate in a business sense. Had Sanders character being a little more raunchy with those young guys I'd be dying of laughter as well, just the dinner with some cute distant moments
isn't enough but Funny or Die made something special, and Goodman always delivers. 7/10.
