I didn't know what to expect when I saw the screening at the Garden State Film Festival, but was captivated by the story, cinematography, acting, and production quality. The grit and development of the main character really came through and captured the imagination the entire film. I was emotionally captured as one could imagine the difficulty of a veteran dealing with the realities of finding a money filled time capsule and the impact of the real world. Trying to convince people to help you while also dealing with the very real scenario that these same people would harm you for their own benefit given the opportunity, while implausible, resonated and made for a great plot line. Needing to use the cash in the luggage to help improve one's life after so much trauma was heart wrenching and the outcome kept me gripped to my seat. If the goal of cinema is to explore the characters to drive an emotional outcome and lose oneself in the art, this movie overachieved. Great work by all involved and looking forward to more from this team.
Saw this movie at the Garden State Film Festival 2025 and was very entertained. Great story of redemption, great acting and solid New York story. Cool film with an old school NYC vibe. Lots of action propel the story and each character has an arch. Fun moments and comedy in this film, as well. Peter Greene is fantastic in his role, always with an edge and you can really feel for Lenny. Matt Grossman as the cab driver is fantastic. Super fun watch at GSFF in Cranford, NJ. Will def watch on streaming and recommend highly to film lovers, especially those fans on "Mean Streets" and "French Connection."
Amazing movie that captured my attention throughout the entire film. I absolutely loved it! All of the actors were fantastic and the storyline kept me glued to the screen. I had fun watching this with my family and everyone enjoyed it! It didn't feel like we were watching a movie, it felt like we were there and part of the experience. It is a unique story and didn't feel like anything I had seen before. Lenny Thomas did an incredible job in his role as Beggarman and I highly recommend this movie to everyone. Whether you like action, suspense, or love, there is something for everyone in this powerful story.
Beggarman was so refreshingly great to watch! The style, tone, and storyline were immensely compelling. I watched this movie at a film festival and could not take my eyes off the screen for a second. It had me (and the rest of the audience) on our toes the entire time. You know a movie is great when people in the crowd can't help but react out loud-gasping, laughing, fully immersed. Lol! Lenny Thomas brought such depth and vulnerability to his role. Not to mention, the entire cast, writer, and director are so talented. I honestly can't wait for it to drop on streaming so I can watch it all over again and share it with friends!
This film takes on a lot; it's dramatic, somewhat classic in setting, funny ... every move worked well, making Beggerman and enjoyable watch, and even thought provoking ... money does not always solve problems, it makes more of them, and the plot illustrates that through a dramatic unraveling, that leaves the viewer not only entertained, but moved.
The overall look of the film has an appropriate great, with color breaking through as needed, and some of the sets and props are notable - was that really money from the 1970s? Real rain? I had these thoughts while watching, but it did not distract from getting immersed in the world of Beggarman!
