The trailers gave an impression that its about Hindi imposition in TN. The movie doesnt make a direct point on any subject. Keerthi Suresh is an independent thinking woman who leads an agitation to close a Hindi sabha in her village along with her grandfather. She is also a prolific writer who writes under a male pseudonym. Situations change where she has to take a Hindi exam to earn a promotion to stop an impending marriage. The comedy works thanks to Keerthy Suresh, Devadarshini and Ismath Bhanu. But you cannot understand what the director is supporting here. All the North Indian characters speak Tamil. A character called Ranganathan is pledging everything he has, just to get the Hindi sabha in the village open. Why?
The same sabha conducts the exams that Keerthy has to take, that she had violently closed(wonder who will conduct it) but conveniently she has to prepone and take it at a different location. In the end it all leads to a chaotic marriage situation where she talks about the compulsion of culture. Then we have a dialogue where she says she is not against Hindi but imposition of Hindi. But still won't allow the Sabha to be opened. How does opening a Sabha lead to imposition? She had to slyly find someone to coach her for the exam, why not allow a Sabha which can do the same publicly? Overall the director is too cowardly to take a clear stance or present the arguments on both sides clearly. I am quite surprised that this was the same gentleman who wrote such a brilliant Season 2 of Family Man.

Keerthy Suresh in the titular role is reason enough to watch this film. With a strong ensemble of performers, it's debatable how the movie holds up as a whole.
The story is set in the 1960s, where a rebellious Tamil girl, guided by her strong ideologies and principles, eventually succumbs to patriarchal pressure as her grandfather nears the end of his life.
It's a fun and satirical take on the political climate of Tamil Nadu in the 1960s, particularly the anti-Hindi imposition protests. This sentiment still holds true to some extent today, with the state maintaining its resistance to Hindi. However, the weak screenplay causes the film to lag in many places.
Keerthy Suresh is in her element, delivering the solid performance one would expect from her. Kudos to the unconventional casting of Ravindra Vijay, who excels in his role. MS Bhaskar as the grandfather is decent, while Ismath Banu's well-written character adds organic humor to the film. Rajeev Ravindranathan and Devadarshini Sukumaran play familiar roles, as seen in their previous films, and master these characters.
Special mention goes to the art department, costumes, and cinematography, which bring the era to life in a believable way. The songs are average, and the comedic sequences work in parts. However, multiple plot threads feel too cinematic, reducing the believability of the story. The climax, in particular, feels overly dramatic and rushed.
As a debut work from director Suman Kumar, it's a decent effort, though it falls short of being truly gripping. Overall, it's an average movie, suitable for a lazy afternoon watch.

I thought mostly youngsters go to cinema nowadays and cinema is made for them. This one turned out to be made for 60 year olds!
Very outdated kind of feeling and story. Retro but not gripping. 2-3 tamil films released around the same time, I think this one only flopped badly. Feel sorry for the producers but they should have taken better decision. Raayan was so good. Even demonte colony was better I hear.
Very slow pace. Keerthy acting was ok but wasted. She looks good in saree and all but then the story and film has to keep you awake also! That was not happening with this one. One gentleman in our row even left mid way. Hope they make better movies.

Had skipped it in the theaters as it looked like a boring film.
Now it released on zee5tamil. Family was watching , so I also sat down. Not only it is boring, it is like a old tv serial with some old sentiments etc.
I dont know what these studios think nowadays. Who wants to see such a small story dragged into 2+ hours?
Zee5 has many other good films. Do a favour to yourself and watch any of these.
Someone told me kantara people made these movie. Kantara though not in tamil was 10/10. This one even though tamil, even 3/10 is too much for me to give!
Keerthy should choose better movies. Hope her next film is better.

When I saw Hombale is making a tamil film I got excited. After all they are known for films like Kantara which I liked too much. KGF also made lot of money but I have not watched. Took my entire family on a sunday to watch this. What a disapointment, appa!
It made me remember some 1960 tv serial. Amma, appa, full family. Only cracking jokes that too not funny more than half the time.
I also not like hindi imposition but when you watch a film it has to be entertainment. Not sleepy like this one.
My opinion hombale did a big mistake with this film. Hope they do not repeat. Else tamil people never go to hombale films again.
