The writing is just dreadful. From the cringeworthy opening conversation between Sam and Ken to the closing scene there isn't anything good. The script is laughable.
Even the fight scenes are slightly below par which is unusual for an Adkins movie.
I was pleased at the hit squad completely destroying the bar area, but failing to hit the fish tank. No one likes seeing fish getting shot up, do they?
Even though they are trapped in the apartment, there is very little in the way of tension. For some reason, they are struggling to close the curtains and there are a few times when they could leave by the door.
The high reviews on here are obviously fake. If you feel you must, then watch it and judge for yourself. This Scott Adkins fan is very dissappointed.

As usual, Scott Adkins is as good as it gets. But when you have a terrible script, two likable actors in the lead are wasted in silly, inane, predictable style. He is 10 times the actor and the martial artist that jvcd ever was. But for reasons I cannot explain, he gets stuck in b minus movies like these. Most of the movie takes place at the penthouse of a hotel room where they duck behind a sofa for cover,. Yes a sofa which has bullet holes through it as if a sniper couldn't just pepper it and kill everyone and end the movie.
Accident man is one of Atkins best including avengement. Stick with those, skip this..

Based on the actors you know what you are getting with Scott Adkins.
But I felt this was way below average and one of his worst.
Nothing to do with the acting which is always serviceable enough but the script was so bad I think they may be trying to be a parody of these sort of movies.
You have the standard assassin type and you can fill in the blanks it is paint by numbers, but some of the choices are insane, the handlers Alice Eve voice is jarring, she does not suit a small part or play it very convincingly.
You dont need an amazing or necessarily logical script but this one is seriously below average there was no need for some of the most stupid plot points.
Scott Adkins can act well enough for these sort of parts but never has a chance.
The action sequences are so boring with no interesting parts.
I think they should not have gone with Alice Eve and spent the money on a better script and director.

While I had indeed never heard about the 2024 action thriller "Take Cover", as I stumbled upon it here in 2025, I opted to watch it regardless. Why? Well, I believe in giving all movies a fair chance. And the fact that it was a movie with Scott Adkins in the leading role certainly was a cherry on top of the serving.
The storyline in "Take Cover" was okay. It was entertaining enough for what it was, but it was a bit on the simplistic side. This movie requires no particular commitment from the audience, so just lean back and enjoy the action. "Take Cover" is a popcorn movie, pure and simple. So writer Joshua Todd James didn't really impress me with the script and storyline for the movie.
The acting performances in the movie were fair. And of course you know what you are getting with the likes of Scott Adkins on the cast list. Aside from Scott Adkins, the only familiar face on the cast list was Alice Eve.
"Take Cover" does have a good amount of action sequences, which certainly do more than their fair share of keeping the movie afloat and interesting.
This movie will appeal to fans of Scott Adkins, no doubt about that. But if you opt to sit down to watch "Take Cover" on account of it being an action thriller, well let me just say that there are far better choices of movies out there with a more compelling and interesting storyline.
Watchable, for sure, but hardly an outstanding action thriller. Nor is it a movie that has the contents to support more than a single viewing.
My rating of director Nick McKinless's 2024 movie "Take Cover" lands on a five out of ten stars.

It is not like it is some great story, but it is decent enough. I am not saying more, because I do not want to spoil. It is true, though, that the script is terrible - the conversations! Just awful. The characters are not that bad, it is all in the conversations.
You won't see the best of Scott Adkins' fighting, but that is not the idea, as he is supposed to be differently skilled. And the situation he and his teammate got stuck in is a good idea. So overall, I am rating the movie six stars, which is ok on my scale, as five and below is bad to worst. And to be honest, I think there are worse action movies (and movies overall) being on cinema, pretending that they aren't crap.

- GaffesIn the beginning scene Sam is cleaning a rifle barrel. He uses a nylon brush on a rod which is standard practice. However you never clean a rifle barrel from the end as he did. You always brush the barrel bore from the chamber end so that any loose deposits come out the end of the barrel and not into the breech workings..
