The Night Is Young

Great to see a local production put together a ambitious show filled with vampires and dating and sfx to match on a minuscule budget. The Night Is Young has designs for world-building and uses the post-industrial backdrop of the Westbottoms to its fullest capacity, oozing a Midwestern gothic plausibility throughout the runtime. Speaking for KC area folks but I had a good time picking out locations and seeing the Rewind bar at Screenland. The crew knew how to maximize framing of this environment but played within the conventions of found footage well. Story beats hits emotionally with character driven drama amid the bleakness of the dating world, and peppers funny improvisations throughout. Would have liked to see more development of the brother sister relationship but carries a soundtrack and style that imprints long after the tv cools down. The Night Is Young is a little charmer that doesn't overstay its welcome and an especially welcome entry to found footage, which understands, revels, rebels and with/against its contemporaries. Regional cinema deserving of all our attentions.
