Matthew Perry: Not Just Friends

Let alone featured on Prime Video?

From the first minute we noticed something was off. The sleep inducing voice over, probably AI generated, just narrating Matthew Perry's life over some old newsreels and stock footage, as it was an old Gettysburg documentary from the 80's.

We fastfowarded to see if the narration would pick it up at some point, but now, 20 minutes in and it's same boring VO just exposing facts, without any point of view, nor emotions.

Calling this piece of garbage a glorified high school exposé would be too nice.

Don't lose your time watching this thing and read Matthew Perry's memoirs.

Offered little that you could get from reading his book. Paired images from other shows he was in before Friends with information about a completely different show. The AI narration was really distracting because it was obviously not an actual voiceover actor. I bailed on it because there were also moments that were not accurate and it was evident that this "documentary" was cobbled together to cash in on his untimely passing. With a release date of 2023 and the fact that the events and people involved in his last days didn't come to light until 2024 tells me there is nothing to learn from sitting through this lame attempt at a profile.

Following the life story of Perry skimming through his early years, loitering on the Friends decade and followed by his movie career. From the start the voice over that breaks it for me. Sorry it's just a bland reading often read word-by-word and awkward. The content is generally nothing new and seems to be made for someone's parents as opposed to fans. Overuse of gratuitous visual lens flare and glitches. Atmospheric music chords sometimes over the top or inaudible.

So in conclusion was quite disappointed by this as It felt like a project to be done as opposed to a hommage. Hard to watch and listen too, but eventually got to the end.
