Kuyang: Sekutu Iblis yang Selalu Mengintai

Kuyang (2024) yet another brainless and useless film. How long the inhabitants of Indonesian people will continue belief in black magic !! I must have seen many this type of mindless Indonesian films on Netflix. Please make a sensible horror film.

I have not understood what is Kuyang ? What I like in this film was flying and burning head without the body which was flying faster than air. Further, there was only one boat to commute for the people of the small town which also gets burnt and destroyed. The evil lady why she was not doing any harm to locals ? No further clarification as to the children who died in floods. They were the victims of the evil lady ? Anyway, this film is avoidable.

When I stumbled upon the 2024 Indonesian horror movie "Kuyang: Sekutu Iblis yang Selalu Mengintai" on Netflix by random chance, of course I needed no persuasion to sit down and watch it given my love of horror movies and Asian cinema.

Sure, I didn't even know what the movie was about, as I had never heard about it. But that hardly mattered, as it was an Asian horror movie that I hadn't already seen. Yup, that is how much I enjoy horror and Asian cinema.

Writers Achmad Benbela and Alim Sudio put together a script and storyline that was rather enjoyable and entertaining. It was a well-told story, and director Yongki Ongestu was good at setting up the movie, piling up the suspense and slowly letting more and more become revealed to the audience. I have to say that I was genuinely entertained throughout the course of the 97 minutes that the movie ran for. The only downside to "Kuyang: Sekutu Iblis yang Selalu Mengintai" was the fact that it was a rather predictable script though.

While I wasn't familiar with the actors and actresses in the movie, aside from actor Egy Fedly, I will say that the acting performances were good, and they definitely had a great cast ensemble. The actors and actresses really carried the movie quite well.

Something that definitely impressed me about "Kuyang: Sekutu Iblis yang Selalu Mengintai" were the special effects. The special effects were surprisingly good and looked rather realistic, and that added a lot to the overall impression of the movie.

If you enjoy Asian horror cinema, then "Kuyang: Sekutu Iblis yang Selalu Mengintai" is definitely a movie that is well-worth watching.

His desperation to protect his pregnant wife from a creature that floats with a grin full of blood and a baby's foot in its mouth is heart-wrenching. You feel every moment of his paranoia, his isolation, and his resolve.

The film masterfully builds tension without relying on cheap jump scares. Instead, it uses silence, folklore, and psychological unease to make you question who - if anyone - can be trusted. Is it the friendly village head? The helpful midwife? Or are they all part of something darker?

The cinematography is breathtaking, capturing the beauty and terror of rural Borneo, while the sound design and score amplify every moment of suspense. The final act is both tragic and powerful - a battle not just for survival, but for the soul of a family.

Kuyang is a triumph of Indonesian horror - original, culturally rich, and emotionally devastating. It reminds us that the scariest monsters aren't just the ones we see... but the ones we're told don't exist.

Must-watch for fans of Pengabdi Setan, The Witch, and Hereditary.

This one will stay with you long after the credits roll.

The movie has literally no significant development throughout the plot, even the jump scares wont make you jump forget making scared. Why even bother wasting resources producing stale gibberish like this will be a mystery.

Dialogue delivery, expression and acting by the lead female was absolutely bogus. If i am being harsh with my words, then the film asked for it. If i could sue them for wasting my time and ask them to give back my wasted time, then i would. Horribly disappointed.

Also, the predictable plotline made things even more annoying, like even a kid from the kindergarten could not be scared. What a terrible waste. Please refrain from producing trash like these and i urge the OTT platforms from keeping these trash on their platforms.
