The Dinner Plan
A short film from film YouTuber Patrick H Willems, and it is pretty solid! (And I am not just saying that because I am a fan of his videos) This film is very well setup from the very beginning (a man with severe allergies must attend his boss's dinner party where he tries to avoid eating anything that will cause him to vomit while still trying to impress his work peers). Seeing the list of the allergies this guy is dealing with from the opening scene puts you on edge the whole time while also serving as a the setup to punchlines at the dinner table. (Some of which got some visceral reactions from me as I was watching it! 😄) I also loved the use of music with certain shots here which sells both the horror and comedy perfectly! The film does come to the inevitable climax though I would have liked a little more resolution after it. (The ending as is was a little bizarre) As well the character mentions not knowing if the incontrollable allergic reaction is a real or mental thing on his mind which I expected to play more into the ending. A couple nitpicks: I do wish there was more than one of the hero's allergies in the food being served, (Especially if you are going to give the hero an entire LIST of allergies to worry about) and some visual effects at the end did look fake to me (but it also could have been intentional) Overall a fun short that brings a good bit to the table! (And it is great seeing the growing trend of YouTubers proving themselves as filmmakers with their own films).
