The Sound of the Guns

Coming in, my expectations for were pretty low for this series. "Another spin-off AND prequel rolled into one" I thought as I rolled my eyes.

How wrong I was. I enjoyed the Terminal List series - not quite as good as the book it was based on - but entertaining enough (I'm considering a re-watch now actually), but didn't think a spin-off featuring Ben Edward's would work but I have to say; half-way through the season, it totally does.

1st episode was obviously a setup episode (but it wasn't slow or boring in doing) for what was to follow.

What I like about this is that the storyline so far makes sense - and we slowly see what happened to Ben that leads to TL. I also like that the series has enough space to develop the characters whilst keeping a decent pace and you actually end up caring for them - so when it all kicks off - which it certainly does - you're actually engaged in the potential peril of these characters.

That probably enough for now - I won't go into the details of the ep4 cliffhanger/twist but it was well-hidden and well-executed (with a few subtle hints as to what was to come in the episode if you were paying attention. Roll on the next episode!

There's an immersive experience with one-shot action sequences that just makes it them all the more thrilling to watch. The timing, duration of the one shot take in this episode, albeit a bit expected still felt adequate and would definitely have you on the edge of your seat.

We need more from this director.
