La Patasola

It is hard not to be disappointed with 'La Patasola'. It reeks of all the malaises of modern horror films, with sub-par writing and lack of any decent production values. It is not completely without merit, as its abysmal rating here on IMDB indicates (2.5 as of 15/08/2025), as the concept inspired by 'Psycho' (1960) is rather promising. You just wish it was made with more attention to detail and better writing. As it is, it is rather convoluted and mediocre.

Stumbling upon the 2024 horror movie "La Patasola" (aka "The One-Legged") here in 2025, and never having heard about it, of course I still opted to watch it, since it was a horror movie and I am a fan of all things horror. I virtually had no idea what I was in for here, so I harbored zero expectations to the movie.

The writers put together a script that proved to not fully capture my interest. The narrative was too sluggishly paced, and the movie felt more like a drug-induced lucid dream than it did a horror movie.

Given my very limited exposure to the Columbian cinema, with this being my first ever Columbian movie seen, then of course I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. The acting performances in the movie were fair.

Visually, the movie was okay. It wasn't a movie that made use of a whole lot of grandiose special effects, so don't get your hopes up.

Would I recommend "La Patasola" to horror fans? No, not really, because the movie is boring and rather uneventful. And it definitely isn't a movie that will grace my screen a second time.

Even the entire cast seems lost in the middle of the narrative chaos, although not in all cases it is the fault of a script overloaded with subplots that are dead ends. Rescuing the correct use of technical resources is not enough, as usual, to knot those loose ends or to avoid saying that this film is undoubtedly one of the worst of the year and decades.
