A true legend! An unforgettable tribute
I just finished watching this documentary, and I honestly don't even have the words. Like millions of others, I've followed Selena for decades - 30 years after her passing, her story still feels alive. After so many films, series, and documentaries that have tried to capture her essence, this one truly gets it right.
This documentary left me with a knot in my throat. It's incredibly complete and beautifully crafted. It shows not only the superstar, but the young girl who carried her family forward with her talent, her drive, and her heart. It highlights her warmth, her positive energy, and the way she saw life - qualities that continue to inspire so many of us.
For me, this is the most authentic and powerful portrayal of Selena to date. A must-watch for anyone who has loved her, admired her, or simply wants to understand why her legacy still shines so brightly.

Beautiful tale of Selena
Watched at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
Selena Quintanilla is one of the most important Mexican-American singers of all time and how she shaped the music industry, culture and people has left a great impact. With this personal and emotional documentary, the director does a great job on exploring about Selena Quintanilla as a person, exploring through some of the most personal moments in her life, her journey and what made her music, and herself as a person, unique and interesting.
Using perfectly balance of archival footages, discussions and presentation, it feels like a memory, a memory that is documented through a photo book. Where you find yourself reliving the past memories and seeing things you never thought you would, but now, are being seen. The atmosphere and direction this documentary tells is very good and emotional. You might know of Selena Quintanilla and her background but this documentary does a deeper insightful of who she was, her background and moments that will leave a shiny impact to those who adored Selena.
As for myself, I am not the biggest Selena Quintanilla lover but having known her history and her impact, this one hits a bit close home.

Didn't think I could love Selena more...but here we are
This was a great documentary of Selena and her story. With all of the footage, it made you really feel like you could know her watching this. It also made me realize how much Jennifer Lopez really captured her in the Selena movie. Just wow.
Watch this and you can see why Selena's magic still touches so many people today. I can't imagine how much she would've blown up into super stardom had she not had her life cut short. Such a huge loss for so many. She is the light in the world we all need and it makes me so sad we didn't get her longer.

A family memoir
Selena y Los Dinos focused more on Selena's life instead of her tragic death. The private home videos & hand written ledgers were such a beautiful addition to this version of the story.
Learning about how young she was when she first started singing, to finding out that she originally knew no Spanish, I enjoyed that this version of the story fixed so heavily on the early years. I find that part was breezed over In the movie and wasn't handled properly in the TV series.
Loved hearing about the writing process. And losing and then winning award shows. How hard it was at the first concert in Mexico. Heating from the record label and other band mates who weren't featured heavily previously was a great touch.
Seeing her vocal strength & performance confidence improve from each home video to the next was a beautiful thing.
It's not perfect. It didn't show the conflicts and rivalries, etc, but you can watch the movie & tv series for more on those topics. That's why I feel it was more a family memoir celebrating the life of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez.

Selena Fan till the day I die
When I saw that they were releasing a documentary, I couldn't wait. I was born the year that she passed but, I learned about her music through the Biopic with Jennifer Lopez. Ever since then I have always admired her and love me her music. I also had read Chris's biography and I have never cried before when reading a book. It brings pain to my heart that someone so young and so full of potential was snatched from this earth. I have a picture of her by my desk with a sign that says believe in yourself. Such a well-done documentary and it feels so good to know that her legacy lives on. If you love Selena beyond the music, this is a must watch!
