L'Accident de Piano takes aim at influencer culture with a satire whose message-about the emptiness of image and online fame-may feel predictable. What keeps the film compelling, however, is the strength of its characters and the unpredictability of its narrative.
Adèle Exarchopoulos is riveting as Magalie, a protagonist devoid of empathy, whose relentless self-absorption becomes both horrifying and fascinating. Around her, every other character is equally devoid of warmth or virtue: no one in this story offers a shred of positivity, which creates a world as emotionally barren as it is visually stark.
Though not Dupieux's most innovative thematically, the film stands out for its bitter tone, bold performances, and its ability to surprise-even when the destination feels bleak.

No pun intended either. We have Adele Exarchopoulos who seems to have become a muse for our director here - and I totally understand it and am here for it.
The way she makes fun of herself (celebrity wise but also body wise) is exceptional. The fact she comes up with a weird laugh (I assume that was not really written in the script and she came up with it), but also many other mannerisms ... just (comedy) gold.
For a Dupieux movie this almost makes too much sense and is quite linear ... but his humor still shines through and there is enough mad- and craziness for anyone who loves his movies. When I became aware of him (Rubber) a long time ago, I wasn't sure what to think of him as a director ... I reckon I had to get used to his style.
This as I already made clear, may be one of the most accessible movies of his ... so if you want to start or discover him, this is a good place to start ... just remember if you watch other movies of his ... they are far out there .. in a sense I can't even begin to describe to you. You may be numb to it by then (to circle back to this movie - by the way was never a fan of Jackass - so the scenes did nothing for me - I just don't think really hurting yourself is funny) ...

Highly intelligent piece of cinema-making it also has probably four of the best actors France has produced in the last 20 years
namely,in any order Adèle Exarchopoulos,Jérôme Commandeur,Sandrine Kiberlain,Karim Leklou
It is an indictment of folks who make a lot of money on the Internet by being cretinous and promoting their cretinism through advertising. We are looking at the people doing stuff on YouTube/Instagram etc or the other even more moronic websites promoting themselves as the object and getting way way too big for their own shoes .influencers is the name they have been "gifted" ....
But the reason you should watch this is not so much for that; this is just a background story and theme. It is really a commentary on nihilism and emptiness of a lot of modern living but all of this done within a humorous soup and the acting from these four main characters is outstanding. I have seen all four of them at different times in different movies and they always are very good. I could not believe they were all four there in this film that tells us how well aware of the possibilities this director Quentin Dupieux actually is; his films usually border insanity; but by his own standards this one is just brutal and hilarious; a dark comedy for our times
Absolutely excellent.
