This potential cult classic offers up one of the most stunning and realistic possible futures of artificial intelligence In the form of biological cloning. Reminiscent of strong themes from George Lucas's sci fi classic THX-1138 (1971), LX2048 has Adam Bird, a broker consultant of an outdated virtual reality company who remains insistent that he is special and defies communal norms and instead physically goes to work in a near empty office building, gets out in the deadly toxic sunlight, and meets people in person instead of through the newest artificial cloud scape using advanced chips. He insists on visiting in person with a therapist. Living separated from his wife, Adam seeks solace in an AI companion that even today is a real growing phenomenon. A restraining order prevents him from seeing his three sons except by virtual means. Disconnected, Bird is on a desperate search to leave something of value behind for his wife and children from what he believes is a failing company after receiving word that he is dying from a weak heart (whether literally or figuratively is never fully resolved). The production quality is solid, the pacing well captures the active events of the strong storyline. James D'Arcy (a Benedict Cumberbatch look a like) as Adam Bird has a specular performance as a distraught husband with immersive, compelling acting and dialogue from a script that captures the intensity and mind-twisting essence of the future. This movie is a must see for those concerned about the future societal impact of cloning and artificial intelligence along with drastic climate change. Together with The Machine (2013), LX2048 has little in the way of flaws or drawbacks for those fascinated in the possible future of mankind. Strangely for mankind, it may all come down to cells with cells or God or accidental fate.
This eight-episode Japanese medical drama television series maybe the best medical drama of all time, definitely the most relevant to today's medical practice in Japan, around the world, and especially in America. The series revolves around a general medicine doctor who each episode addresses authentic common life medical problems that real patients cope with everyday in a compassionate and riveting manner. Unlike the overly dramatized, soap operas of mysterious medical mysteries offered up in America (except perhaps the original American television series Emergency! (1972-1979)), every person who watches can directly relate and appreciate the actual practice of general medicine as new and as controversial as it may be in Japan.
It may also be helpful to understand the medical term General Medicine is what is likely known in American as Integrative Medicine, a holistic approach to medical practice where the patient's symptom are viewed from the perspective of individual, the family, and the community and their impacts on the human person instead of separate organ specialties. Each episode offers up a complete examination of singular patients and their resolutions whatever they may be while in the background the series' arch centers around the control over the long term objectives of the hospital: financial survival and focus on revenue raising individualized isolated medical departments and cutbacks versus treating every patient using a collaborative model with the financial risk of bankruptcy.
In comparison to another excellent Japanese medical drama that came out this year, After School Medical Record (2025), this series is like a grown-up adult version.
A close American version of this series in tone might be that of the old martial art classic an English version of an Asian in America titled Kung Fu (1972-1975). This series incorporates refreshing cinematography and camera work while allowing the story to shine and be the mainstay of the series. It is substantive, entertaining, informative, and makes a valuable contribution to the discussion of the health care policy of any Country. For most audience members this is charming tv series as a must watch.

Finally. Difficult to rate movie. There are brilliant opportunities, nice suggestive connections to sci fi classics such as Soylent Green (1973), Alien (1979) even Interstellar (2014). The movie script's plot is novel and creative. But what makes this sci fi movie frustrating is its well atypical acting performances and several weak plot points. In some ways the acting is well quite unique while others would say wooden. Then there is the blogger character on board that really offers only overly hyped unbelievable unnecessary dramatics and the commander of the ship is a strange almost inscrutable even unnecessary character. The pacing and the ominous sustained tension is good. What makes this movie stand out though it is AI character that seems to actually be authentic in its depiction and the rather simplistic but realistic modern set design without all the dated or overly exaggerated gadgetry and awful pretentious control designs often used in space sci fi movies. There are places in the script that offer excellent sci fi concepts yet with the unfortunate plot holes. Just another manuscript revision and focus group evaluation might have allowed this movie to really have broken through. In the end, the movie is tolerable and watchable to the end with a few creative ideas thrown in.
