I'm on episode 2 and I'm I disbelief. Mainly at the excellent reviews. I'm not criticising the storyline as I'm only part way through but the acting... holy ****. It's beyond bad. I'm embarrassed sitting watching it. Matthew Goode isn't realistic and it's unrealistic the way he complains all the time. It's also unrealistic the way everyone is always sniping at each other. The worst thing though, hands down are the Scottish accents. So unrealistic. They can't even swear well. We're a nation of great swearers but even the swearing in this is amateur! I hate to say it but Kate Dickie, who I thought was great in Game of Thrones and Red Road is plain embarrassing in this. Alexej Manvelov, IMO is best with Shirley Henderson doing a decent job too. I don't know how people can rate this a 9 or 10. Shame. UPDATE. I've changed my review to a 7 from a 5. The acting by some was still awful, however, the story and the entertainment value left me feeling entertained.
I don't understand the negative reviews. I found this a compelling mini series. The police footage was intriguing. I had never seen it before. This was a human story that really took the family of the victims into account in a thoughtful way. If you just want gore details then you may be disappointed but for me, it was dark enough. A true life horror story that shone a light on the cruelty and depravity some human beings are capable of. Including many of the people involved in the case then and as they are now brought an added dimension. This documentary stayed with me after viewing. I appreciate Netflix makes by a sensitive, watchable documentary that didn't stoop to gutter level.
I love the Frankenstein story. I'm not a fan of Brannagh though and avoided this when it was released.
30 years on, I thought I'd give it a watch on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
The acting is ridiculous. I laughed out loud so many times. De Niro must surely regret taking part in it?
Most of the actors are way over the top. The facial expressions at times are so exaggerated, including Helena Bonham Carter who seems to be parodying herself.
It's still watchable, and I'm glad I gave it a viewing. It could have been so much better though and Brannagh should be applauded for giving it a go.
Boris Karloff will never be equalled and James Whale will be smirking in his grave.
