Let me start off by saying I am a HUGE fan of nature documentaries. Some are better than others ( hello David and Bertie) but all serve an incredibly important purpose - transporting us to different ecosystems and their inhabitants so we may have a better understanding of how crucial their role is in the grand scheme of life on this planet. Having said that, some of these documentaries can be very dry, academic and downright depressing. But not Underdogs. Just seconds into the intro I began laughing out loud. It's audacious, hilarious AND informative. PLEASE Ryan, create more of this fun-filled exploration of Underdogs. Parents: getting ready to do a lot explaining.
Belive it or not, I only just started watching this show, mainly because of Mandy, and that I read Daniel from Wheel of Time is in it. It's an interesting concept and they pull it off pretty well, with the exception of two things that I find increasingly irritating as I watch (I'm on S1E8): 1- will someone please turn on some lights!! Why is every scene so darkly lit? I just want to scream at the TV "look for a light switch, dammit" and 2) why doesn't anyone one on the team wear sterile gloves when entering a crime scene?? Really!?! That's crime drama 101. But no, they just touch the evidence all willy nilly like it's no biggie. I wish they would put some effort into making the show a bit more authentic and realistic. I'll keep watching and hope they at some point they bought some light bulbs and a box of sterile gloves.
Not every post-apocalyptic, dystopian, end of the world movie is going to be up there in the ranks with our favorite genre classics. But there are some out there that know exactly what they are and just want to entertain us. And maybe even leave us questioning and hoping for a sequel.
And that's exactly what this movie did for me. The cast was great, the location was beautiful and there are several tense, nail-biting moments, compliments of some crazy unkillable well- executed monsters.
I noticed both Anthony and Moreena were producers on this film, and I hope they disregard the haters, forget the numbers, and give us a sequel that will continue forward with the story.
