The acting of all the players is "on fire" but the most on fire is Luna and Shareefa, their emotions are really there. I really like it because this is not a film that sells religion and s3x, but really sells the story of a mother's struggle, I can really feel the struggle of Marsinah and Lastini. At the ending I cried sobbing until the cinema lights turned on hehe 🙏🏻 I'm still surprised that Bang Jeropoint is so brave to immediately bring 3 horror queens for his first film 😭 but this is a successful film, especially in the storyline and plot twists, although there are still shortcomings. Good job jeropoint, leo and tim!
The Big 4 is an exhilarating Indonesian action-comedy directed by Timo Tjahjanto, known for his unique ability to blend dark humor with intense action. The story revolves around four retired assassins who reunite when their past catches up to them, leading to a chaotic adventure filled with over-the-top fights, witty banter, and heartwarming moments of friendship and loyalty.
The film's greatest strength lies in its perfectly timed humor and the chemistry among the lead characters, each bringing their own distinct personality and quirks to the team. From sharp dialogue to slapstick sequences, the humor is fast-paced and engaging, making it easy to connect with the characters despite the wild premise. Tjahjanto's direction ensures that the action sequences are expertly choreographed, with plenty of creative stunts and thrilling visuals that keep the energy high from start to finish.
While The Big 4 leans into genre tropes, it does so in a way that feels fresh and enjoyable, often poking fun at itself. The film also offers emotional depth, exploring themes of family and redemption amid the laughs and explosions. Overall, The Big 4 is a fun, stylish, and memorable film that showcases the potential of Indonesian cinema on an international level.

This biopic stands apart from typical films of its genre by avoiding the usual hagiographic tendencies. Instead of glorifying its subject, it presents a mood-driven narrative, a series of incidental scenes that intertwine with key historical moments, highlighting their significance.
The protagonist is portrayed with subtlety and poetic expression, and the film reflects this tone. Gie is portrayed with a quiet beauty, and the cinematography, though striking and well-composed, feels effortless and natural. The film maintains a sense of formal beauty without detracting from its naturalistic approach, supported by gentle music and a focus on small, meaningful moments.
Although the film addresses a period of great turmoil and persistent political corruption, it also emphasizes the protagonist's appreciation for nature and tranquility, which adds depth and humanity to the story. It portrays the country and its people, using moments of calm to contrast with the pervasive corruption, creating a poignant and thoughtful exploration of the past and its relevance to the present..
