Trigger is a gripping social experiment set in a nation where men are trained to shoot but firearms are virtually nonexistent. What happens when the marginalized-likely over half of South Korea's population-suddenly gain access to guns? As expected, the outcome is chaotic, with tensions boiling over in a society already on edge from stress and systemic pressures. (In contrast, the Czech Republic has a fair number of guns, and things seem to manage 😉.) Kim Young-kwang, unforgettable from Pinocchio and recently Call It Love, delivers a strikingly unrecognizable performance 👍. A solid 9/10.
The shift from Sweet Home's Green Home setting to the stadium diluted the series' intensity and coherence, with the addition of unnecessary characters. The most compelling aspect was the transformation of humans into monsters, half-monsters, and neo-humans, alongside the reactions of others and their own internal struggles. Despite flaws, the series is well-crafted, and Min-si's stubborn determination carries it to the end.
Surprisingly really good! Yi-hyun is an incredible hoot 😍 (her transformation in the final episode, wow!). According to Grok, there are about 200,000 to 300,000 shamans in Korea today... so this "fairy tale" with depth is kind of a wild ride. But I think they rushed the ending unnecessarily (which is almost ironic for Korean genre).
