In this episode, we are introduced to Howard, Pearl and Marina. This trio were to last the course for 15 years until LOTSW ended in 2010.
Pearl (Juliette Caplan) was about 44 years old when filmed but she had a strange regional accent which did alter for the better, in future episodes.
Marina (Jean Fergusson) was about 39/40 when filmed and had a hard visage which mellowed over the following years.
Howard ( Robert Fyfe) was about 54 when filmed and immediately portrayed the henpecked husband of Pearl who would become funnier over time.
We never discovered if Howard and Pearl Sibshaw ever had children or why Marina, the man eater, was never married.

Watched today (14 Sept. 2025) on U. K. Comedy Central. I'm delighted to admit that even now, at the age of 76, it still made me laugh. Pure Slapstick and a welcome diversion from all the troubles in the World today.
It's a great pity there aren't more films like this being made today.
If we learnt to guffaw again, life would be a lot better.

I have watched all four episodes on BBC iplayer so my score of 5 is for the overall series.
After a period of reflection, I think this was going to be a 5-parter but the budget dictated 4 parts. This resulted in a completely ridiculous and rushed final episode. The ending spoilt what could have been a good series. The first 2 episodes were good, the third, so-so but the final episode!
One criticism, some of the dialogue was muttered with strong Welsh accents. I couldn't understand what was being said.
This wasn't the BBC at its best, more like a Channel 5 production.
