THE GOOD: Some of the best production and set design ever in film. Production Designers: Ernest Archer, Harry Lange, Tony Masters; Art Director: John Hoesli; and Set Decorator: Robert Cartwright should be given so much credit for this film. Almost everything good about it comes from them and the special effects team. The miniature work was phenomenal, and every set was immaculate. You can tell there was meticulous thought put into every aspect of the set design. I loved the floating and walking around the walls of the spacecraft effects. I loved the amount of detail in the movement of the parts of the spacecraft it really felt like I was looking at real machinery and the sense of scale was definitely accomplished.
THE BAD: The pacing of this film is way too slow to have any sort of effective build up of tension. There was about 2 hours of lead up to 2 minutes of action. The characters were not developed whatsoever and I didn't really care what happened to them. The audio was definitely held back by the limitations of the time and does not meet today's quality standards. The score felt out of place at times. Wayyyy too much heavy astronaut breathing in the audio mix. The first 20 minutes and last 15 minutes should be removed entirely. This movie is much prettier than it is entertaining or interesting.
CONSENSUS: The movie is salvaged only by its immense visual beauty (except for the last 15 minutes that felt like an acid trip) and meticulous detail, an interesting premise brought down by poor pacing, a mediocre screenplay, audio limitations, and a lack of discipline in the editing room. You should watch this only if you appreciate the thought and detail put into the production and set design. (7.5/10)

A shallow story and a few cheesy lines near the end, but the film is bolstered by fun, well-shot action, a few good songs, and a solid performance by Bob Odenkirk. Wish we had a little more exploration of the other characters like Hutch's wife and father. But overall a fun and entertaining action movie. 8.2/10).
Definitely one of Bong Joon Ho's best. This movie has humor, drama, mystery, sadness, action and chaos. It has a great cast with some great performances. It is also fueled by great cinematography, great set design, well defined characters, and great pacing. It is a soul crushing story that makes you face the darkest sides of humanity, as Bong Joon Ho often does. This is why women choose the bear.
