In order to make a quick buck Nadeem hands an ancient artefact to former Ghostbuster Ray Stantz. It soon transpires that this ancient artefact contains a highly dangerous demon that will have devastating consequences to the world as we know it should it ever be released. Sadly, this is exactly what ends up happening and Ghostbusters (both old and new) must work together to stop this evil being....

None of the Ghostbusters films have ever blown me away (this is mostly confined to the narrative of each film), but I have to admit that each film up until this point had, at least, been relatively enjoyable. Frozen Empire now marks the exception to the rule...

I'll start by comparing this film to Afterlife; out with the quirky family dynamics and good camaraderie between the new/young cast members and in with this weird sense of distancing amongst the capable young cast - Frozen Empire just doesn't feel cohesive and I didn't feel that the cast from Afterlife gelled quite as well as they did in the aforementioned film.

Another negative is the ludicrous amount of time that the film took to get to the point; Stevie Wonder could see where this was going from an early stage, but the film painfully dragged this out until the poor horse could be flogged no more. I think the worst thing about this was the sub plot involving the ghost girl (Melody I think was her name). Whilst initially interesting, it went on to form one of the worst parts of the story and took up far too much time (and ultimately what point did it actually serve??).

Moving back to the positives, I still thought the young cast from Afterlife all did a good job and I loved the fact that most of the original cast of Ghostbusters were on board to kick Ghost butt (I'm sure Harold Ramis is smiling down from heaven).

For me though, it's still not quite enough. The previous film was guilty of nostalgia, but didn't seem to depend on it. Frozen Empire's weak story, unappealing villain and elongated running time make it stand out far more than its predecessor (albeit for entirely the wrong reasons).

If you want to see your favourite Ghostbusters kicking ass then you may want to check it out, but for those who want a decent continuation from the last film you may well feel slightly disappointed when the credits begin to roll.

Down on his luck Jaime Reyes finds himself as the unwitting host to an alien scarab that is determined for he and it to become symbiotic. However, the technology that has chosen Jaime proves to be very dangerous and those who have developed it will stop at nothing to claim what they believe is rightfully theirs....

To begin with the good, I like Xolo Mariduena I thought he did a solid job in Cobra Kai and could see potential for him in meatier roles and I'm glad that such an opportunity has been bestowed upon him. Whilst I thought Mariduena did a decent job, everything else about the film was decidedly so-so...

First thing that I need to address about this film is one of the things that the critics have been seemingly praising (yet another occasion when I disagree with the majority of them) and that is with Jaime's family.... many of them have said how great they were and how they were entertaining and carried the film etc... Really? I had the total opposite feelings... I found them annoying, unfunny and felt that they had far too much screen time (though I have to concede that they did become less annoying the more the film progressed).

The story was a bit wishy-washy and at times it seemed to become lost and/or forgotten. There weren't anywhere near enough action sequences and at close to 2 hours it felt...well... a little too long.

Susan Sarandon is the film's main draw, but like many films that have gone before it Blue Beetle seems to use one person's star power to sucker the audience in to watching the film. This film is a case in point as Sarandon isn't in the film all that much and even when she is she doesn't showcase any of the greatness that we know that she is capable of (this was purely a pay cheque film for her).

Blue Beetle has just about enough to make it watchable, but it's far from great (symbiotic being and host have been done much better in the Venom franchise). It's too long, lacks humour and suffers from fairly weak acting (with the exception of Mariduena) whom I can see has some potential. Overall though it's all just a bit meh...
