I went into this with zero idea about it and was pleasantly surprised. Look forward to season 2 and wonder if they will go away from the beacon. The writing is good and just as it veers towards becoming preachy the script backs off. There is an overarching plot but also room for semi-discrete, stand-alone stories and episodes. Characters are interesting and the AI themes avoids some worn-out, sky-is -falling tropes. This is one of the better new science fiction offerings, certainly more interesting than the slow -moving, cliched "constellation." This and resident alien, though the latter is somewhat more uneven, have really surprised me with fresh takes on the limited number of plots that exist in the universe. Now if the TV gods could just bring back dark matter.....

This is the best of the series in my opinion after the original. (Though Next Generation has grown on me and the new Picard series is very good.) The writing is very good, the plots very good and the characters are very well cast and developed----much better than most of the other series. . The overarching plot, in addition to the plot of each episode, makes this more sophisticated and interesting than most of the other series. t"pol is by far the most interesting vulcan after spock (in all his incarnations). This is VASTLY underrated and I predict that over time with have more lasting viewers and fans than many of the other franchises.
