This series is an entertaining one, full of silliness and set against a beautiful backdrop of Stratford-upon-Avon. The characters work for the lighthearted fluff piece that it is, but some of the "accents" leave much to be desired! Overall, it works even if it becomes formula driven after a while. It's a bit of escapism for getting away from the more serious crime shows.
This series is badly written and poorly produced. It screams low budget with the wardrobe and really bad wigs. The story and dialog are trie, seemingly done with some sort of an agenda in mind. There are the usual themes around migration of that era and the program itself, but these could all have been done much better. The storyline is a mishmash of events, not all of which make sense. Could not watch past the first episode due to the low level of production and story telling!
This is a very entertaining series that is superbly cast, each cast member literally bringing each of their characters to life. The problem is that not all the episodes are well written to allow the conclusion to match the content that led up to that conclusion. Wondered if there were pieces of information missed along the way as the narrative for each episode unfolded, but even after rewinding and playing again, there are gaps in the story telling that make it impossible to understand how the conclusion and guilty party was identified. The series itself is very watchable.
