This is a beautiful film, shot with elegant cinematography, beautiful visuals, and stark violence and gore. It also is an incredibly dumb film which leaves the viewer stupider for watching it. I don't get it. Either it's one of the most unrealistic, idiotic films I've seen in a long time or it's a dark comedy that comes across too seriously and thus completely misses the mark. Stay for the violence, because there's no brains in this movie whatsoever.

The story by Stephen King is a dark, raw take that leaves one shaken and pondering for a while after. This interpretation just can't find the right tone. I think a much better job could have been done with world-building and the set up. We know too little about the main character to really become emotionally invested. Also, the action sequences were just too unrealistic as the protagonist seemed to have a force field around him at times. Finally, the film wavered too much between being a dystopian action movie, a heartfelt drama, or a goofball comedy. It was interesting to watch but just didn't hit the mark.

I didn't go into this expecting Oscar material, but this was simply put, terrible. The jokes were not funny, and every character was basically a stereotypical caricature. It felt like watching a really bad made-for-TV movie, which I guess it kind of was. Cringe-worthy throwaway movie to watch in the background while you do better things with your life.
