I was an AVID GWTW fan as a chid, both the book and the movie. Obsessed really. I read Scarlett and while I didn't love it, I was happy with my happy ending even though it took so long to get there. Needless to say, I was devastated when the mini series came out and they cast JoanneWhalley as Scarlett? I'm sorry to be blunt, but she is not very pretty and just has none of the X factor that Vivian Leigh brought to the role. Scarlett's biggest physical attribute is her cat-like green eyes. While Vivian Leigh nailed exactly what made Scarlett so attractive, this Scarlett is bordering on unattractive with very prominent brown eyes practically highlighting how much she isn't right for the role. I always wondered how she got cast, through her husband Val Kilmer, or the casting couch? Harsh, I know, but I was so excited about this mini series when it came out only to be unable to enjoy it because I was blinded by how wrong the lead actress was.
For anyone looking for this kind of information - yes, this show is woke.
Examples? How about telling your teenage daughter that you're her best friend, her ride-or-die, and that you'll help her "bury the bodies." Great parenting, don't ya think? Let's have Mom dress like a hooker too, yeah, that really sells the message.
Then in an early episode of Season 2 (either Ep 2 or Ep 3), you've got a bad guy ranting about how his thief of a mother - who died in prison - is all because of rich people. And our "Mother of the Year" lead actually agrees with him. I can practically see her holding up a "Free Luigi Mangione" sign.
They also cast the most gay-acting straight man possible to play her baby daddy. Then, to top it off, our Mother of the Year assaults a police officer and behaves like a classless teenage girl - right alongside her actual teen daughter - all because the daughter might face consequences for her actions. Mom's yelling about a "criminal record," as if juvenile court doesn't exist.
Oh, and yeah - they get arrested together, and Mom is just so proud. I did like this show at the start but it slowly revealed it's true colors.

I originally gave this a 10 because I did love the show at the time it first aired. I recently binged the entire series. I still think it is great 30 years later, but some of it was cringeworthy. Particularly the Frances storyline, yikes I dislike that character. You can tell when the liberal scriptwriters took over the show in Season 3. Holy crap, they turned this serious crime-solving show into a farce, and of course, with a social agenda. Interesting to see how the mind virus started to infiltrate Hollywood as far back as the 90s.
