After all of the audio cuts from the trailers that had me SO looking forward to entire numbers, I daresay it landed flat for me. I wanted to be gut-wrenched during and after this film but I just wasn't. There wasn't enough tension build-up to release during For Good and unfortunately I was underwhelmed by the delivery. I left the theater unmoved by the supporting cast performances. Act II is known to be the weaker act for the stage version, but the film had an opportunity to deliver better pacing and fuller picture. The plot points that feel rushed on stage felt rushed in the move as well.
Overall, the film kept my interest and boasts stunning optics, but doesn't touch the level of masterpiece or re-watchability part one had.

Adversity, achievement, girlhood; it's all here and it was very well done. Given the context, there is so much required to set the scene and really showcase the obstacles these young women faced-and I'd say it was covered very creatively through the use of both the script and the scene settings. Subtlety in this balance is an art and they got it right.
I give this an 8 instead of a 9 or 10 because ultimately the movie ended without us knowing much about what each of the girls actually did on the robotics team. I would've loved a little bit more featured time dedicated to showing us how each girl contributed and why they were selected for the skills they brought to the table.

I found myself very intrigued by the world-building during the I first ~30-40mins. Between the set visuals and character exposition, we learn a lot about the way this near-future world has developed. As an avid sci-fi fan, this really interested me and I enjoyed seeing and further imagining this futuristic world. However, as soon as the world-building comes to an end and the film moves into the plot line alone, the experience becomes immediately hollow; lacking dramatic depth and investment in our main character or the outcome of the story.
I found that by the end I was watching simply to finish the movie I'd started, not because I was super invested in its conclusion. Visuals continue to be great throughout, but unsupported by a compelling storyline, the overall experience fell short.

The movie was too long, the plot muddled, and the mark missed.
Anyone who has served oversees knows the deep importance of mail and its impact on morale. I wanted to see a shining WWII story that addressed this and I wanted to see these black women be honored for the important role they played.
Unfortunately we get a main character who is endlessly in mourning over a teenaged crush, which is somehow supposed to deeply move us more than once throughout the film. We get slow and unconvincing dialogue from side characters in the opening scenes. We do get a few powerful scenes which end up washed out by the poor pacing, unneeded sub-plots, and persistent hallucinations of our main character's lost love throughout the rest of the film.
As a woman who served in the USMC, I wanted to love and support this movie. As a former DI, I even had a few laughs and a few moments of deep resonance with Maj Adams as she trained these ladies. I respect the film for the story it wanted to tell, but am deeply disappointed at the lackluster angle this production told it from.

Stunning visuals, mind-tingling world-building, solid story, steadily entertaining, and great action scenes. Slight predictability, but strong characterization makes up for it and kept me invested anyway.
I reserve my "10" ratings for films I'd describe as a masterpiece-so this one receives the solid 9 from me. An awesome adventure, but still a little short of unmatched material like Interstellar.
While recycling the classics is fine, enjoying movie night with the added perk of new material is better. This one is definitely added to my list of solids. I'll be returning to enjoy it again in the future.

I remember this book and its series being popular during my 5th/6th grade years (2005/06), and set my expectations for the movie as an adaptation of a tween dystopia that was creative enough to inspire the imagination. I feel like the movie spoke to both of those attributes (creative+ imaginative). As an adult, was I totally enthralled? No. Was the plot slightly predictable? Sure. Were there cliche archetypes and plots of deception to redemption, of course. But for what it was, I was amused enough to finish the film. I even found myself wanting to know more about this fictitious world. I actually think it would've had better reviews had it come out in the YA book-to-screen adaption prime era of 2012-2016. I appreciate the fresh take on a recycled plot, and the nuanced creativity that gave the story life. And if you choose to see it, there are great reminders of what make us all human and what makes life worth living. I don't regret spending an evening watching the film.
I heard and read many reviews mentioning the broad character spread of the film and how it took away from overall flow/comprehension. Watching with subtitles was really helpful for me, as all of the characters names were present during lines and I was able to associate faces to names much faster and with far more consistency than if I'd been watching without subtitles. Given that the runtime is so long, covers so much time in history, and jumps those historical timelines, the subtitles really helped me continue placing characters and led to in-stride comprehension that made this film very enjoyable. A gripping story with a few unexpected turns, loaded with history, and very morally compelling. I definitely recommend this if you're in the mood for a full-fledged drama.
Considering this is a stage play adaption, there is beauty to be found in the script and the acting.
If you're watching to appreciate that on display, I'd give this a solid 7.
But, if you're looking for gripping/engaging cinematic or dramatic entertainment, this isn't a stand-out in that category.
It was fine, I watched the film in its entirety and did find myself appreciating some scenes deeply. However, I was easily distracted and as a person who enjoys watching stand-out films multiple times, I didn't find enough artistic grip or dramatic pull to compel me in revisiting this film a second time.

Fast-paced and intense. A dose of nostalgia for days where more hands reached across the aisles in support of the common good. Ben Affleck displays the great archetypical moral dilemma of following orders Vs following your gut. The human element is on display here and many facets. Great supporting actors. Mild predictability, not enough to be irritating. Worth the watch, will cross your mind for several days afterwords. Only reason this isn't a 10 for me is because it falls just short of what I would label a "masterpiece film." But, a very well done film, and Affleck proves himself critical to the art form once again.
Overall, well done, worth an evening spent to watch. Not the kind to watch over and over, drags a little bit holds your attention. Solid 7/10 for sure.
If you're a fan of this genre, this film won't waste your time. It's a well-done flick that tries to keep a realistic execution and curate the suspense of a catastrophic event. Like all films in this genre, there are moments where your personal disaster film pet peeves will be tickled and will have you shouting at the screen. But, no more than usual (and minimal compared to many films), much to my appreciation.
A few qualms with this film: it takes ~50 minutes to really gain traction on the disaster/ for it to finally start happening. We go into the film knowing a disaster will occur, we don't need this much time to find out what it is or wait for it to happen. The script does a good job of illustrating the contingencies of the event, but gives time to erroneous subplots that didn't really contribute to the story (ie, our main Character is changing jobs; we have scenes dedicated to his going-away, unneeded and simply extend the pickup of the plot, but not unbearable by any means). The slow start had the back end of the film feeling a bit rushed. I would've preferred to see more of the post-disaster world and how people interacted with it. But, you can't have it all.

This was an absolute masterpiece. It forgoes today's flashy action, predictable deus-ex-machina plots, modern CGI, and picture-perfect good-guy-gets all endings for genuine suspense, gritty crime, and the great human elements of playing dirty and playing double. LeoD and Matt Damon are incredible in this film, bringing intention and rawness to an incredible script.
Definitely more than a simple story of cops and robbers.
This story digs deeper into the mind of man, and arguably juxtaposes two definitions of what it means to belong, what it means to make something of oneself, and challenges the typical image of loyalty to tribe. As much as we might despise our antagonist in this film, an insightful viewer will respect his commitment to his definition of family and loyalty throughout most of the story.
This isn't a before-bedtime film. Come at it with an engaged mind, ready to catch the details. Try to keep up with this twisted plot, and enjoy some great writing and screenplay.

I was a little skeptical after scrolling thru some of the previous/older reviews, especially seeing that it was a low-budget film. But, I had a free evening and I love a good mind-bender, so I decided to give it a try. I was drawn in instantly and hooked until the end. This is up there with the thrilling concepts of Interstellar, Inception, Shutter Island, and others: where watching once is a trip, but watching again has you catching the tiny hints more and more each time, while still being left blown away by the entire piece. I Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a mind-warping film experience!
This movie still holds its own against similar types that have come out in recent years. The plot itself is intriguing and gripping, and for those who pick up on the deeper nuggets of philosophy, this movie keeps you thinking for days. A great dose of action, drama, and suspense. Don't let the negative reviews get you turned off to this film, it's a good watch.
Incredible concept presenting eerily realistic moral dilemmas of our not-far-off future. Gripping and suspenseful. Creates a "who can we trust" mindset for the viewer and helps connect us to the main character.
It's good! The acting was excellent, the setting was simple yet intriguing, leaves you wanting to know more. Main character actress displays great skill and characterizes herself well even without dialogue. This is the kind of film that makes you think. There is a powerful exchange in one of the last scenes that leaves you digesting the horrendous varieties/alternative outcomes of human trafficking.
