He is a prolific playwright as well as screenwriter. Among his many plays are Flaubert's Latest, An Imaginary Life, QED (in which Alan Alda starred as physicist Richard Feynmann), The Sorrows of Stephen, The Cider House Rules: Here in St. Cloud's and The Cider House Rules: In Other Parts of the World (both based the novel The Cider House Rules by John Irving), Romance Language, Scooter Thomas Makes It to the Top of the World, The Rise & Rise of Daniel Rocket (made into a TV movie starring Tom Hulce, and Hyde in Hollywood.
