    In 1963, won two Tony Awards: as Best Author (Musical) and as author of the book for the Best Musical winner, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." This was followed with three nominations as Best Director (Musical): in 1968 for "Hallelujah, Baby!;" in 1971 for a revival of "No, No, Nanette;" "in 1972 for a revival of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum."
