Cam Clarke

Anecdotes

Cam Clarke

Modifier
  • Although he does voiceovers for video games, he doesn't play video games.
  • Friends with Townsend Coleman, Rob Paulsen and Barry Gordon.
  • Studied voice acting under voice actor Michael Bell. One of the most important things Bell taught him was to never audition with a voice he couldn't sustain, which would damage his voice as well as alienate potential clients.
  • Voice of Leonardo from the original Les tortues ninjas (1987) animated series of the late 1980s, and later the voice of Prince Adam/He-Man for the 2002 Mike Young-Produced series remake of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2002).
  • In 1999, released his album "Inside Out." The album contains various love songs by various artists including James Taylor and Carly Simon reworked and performed in gay perspective.
  • Is also a part-time Disney Channel announcer.
  • Son of Robert Clarke and Alyce King.
  • Cousin of Tina Cole, Cathy Cole, Liza Rey, Candy Conkling, Jamie Conkling, Chris Conkling, Xandra Conkling, Carolyn Thomas and fellow voice actor Pat Fraley.
  • In his interview as seen in Robotech: Battlecry (2002) (VG), when asked if he plays video games, Cam claims that during his time of his younger days, video games did not exist at those times during the 1950s to the early 1980s and that he does not have the dexterity to play video games. That is why he voices for various entertainments including video games instead of choosing to play video games.
  • Proud sponsor of Camp Will-A-Way, a camp for the mentally and/or physically disabled.
  • Prior to working on Les tortues ninjas (1987) with Peter Renaday, he portrayed Sir Henry Baskerville in the play "The Hound of the Baskervilles" alongside Peter Renaday.
  • Was the original English voice of "Kaneda" in the original English language version of Akira (1988) by Streamline Productions. When distribution rights changed in America from Streamline to Animaze in 2001, the original English language version was replaced, and Clarke's performance as "Kaneda" was replaced by Johnny Yong Bosch.
  • Voice can be heard as a back-up in the 3rd Bass rap lyrics of "Pop Goes the Weasel".
  • Cam Clarke was a contestant on Super Password in 1985, two years before he became the voice of Leonardo in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon.
  • Nephew of King sisters Maxine King, Luise King, Donna King, Yvonne King, and Marilyn King, guitarist/big-band leader Alvino Rey, musician Buddy Cole, and record label executive James Conkling.
  • He auditioned for the voice of "Hadji" for the 1986 version of Jonny Quest (1986).
  • A veteran voice actor.
  • Speaks Spanish fluently.
  • Half-brother of Ric de Azevedo and Lex de Azevedo.
  • Was part of the original uncredited 1989 English voice cast for Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaä de la vallée du vent (1984) (aka Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind), which at the time was retitled "Warriors of the Wind", cut roughly 20 to 30 minutes of footage and changed a number of characters' names, much to the anger of Miyazaki, himself. Clarke voiced "Asbel of Pejite", whose name was changed to "Prince Milo". When Walt Disney Studios re-released "Nausicaa" in America in 2005 with the restored footage and a new voice cast which followed the film's proper dialogue and proper character names, Clarke's performance was replaced by Shia LaBeouf.
  • In 2015, he was a guest at Forest City Comic Con in London, Ontario, Canada. During the event, there was an early snow flurry and the con organizers apologized for the poor weather. Clarke assured them that, far from upset, he found it a charming experience like an ideal Christmas Eve considering that he lived in Southern California with its year-round warm weather.
  • Born on exactly the same date as Lori Singer (of "Footloose" and "VR-5" fame).
