The Shindogs

The Shindogs were the house band on the ABC musical variety TV show
Shindig! (1964). The band consisted
of several legendary blues and rock n' roll musician/songwriters from
the American South. Members were
James Burton,
Delaney Bramlett,
Glen D. Hardin,
Chuck Blackwell, and
Joey Cooper. Burton was one of
the great session and live guitarists in history, playing on many
recordings by Elvis Presley,
Roy Orbison,
Ricky Nelson and others. Burton
wrote and played several iconic guitar riffs and solos, including those
on "Pretty Woman," "Susie Q," and "Travelin' Man". He was later
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bramlett was a session
guitarist on several recordings by
Eric Clapton,
Duane Allman, and
Jerry Lee Lewis and later formed a band
with his first wife, singer/actress
Bonnie Bramlett. He also co-wrote
"Superstar" with Leon Russell, a major hit
for The Carpenters. Hardin was a one-time
member of The Crickets, the original backup
band for Buddy Holly, joining them after
Holly's death, and also co-wrote with Russell, this time the hit "Count
Me In" for
Gary Lewis & The Playboys.
Blackwell later joined Russell as part of the band on
Joe Cocker: Mad Dogs & Englishmen (1971),
the concert film of the 1970 tour by
Joe Cocker.
