As I stumbled upon the 2019 horror comedy "Girls Just Wanna Have Blood", and opting to watch it since I had never heard about it, I have to admit that I didn't exactly harbor the biggest of expectations to the movie. Why? Well, given the movie's title, synopsis and also because it was also known as "Teenage Bloodsuckin' Bimbos". Yeah, it just wasn't a movie that permeated stellar entertainment. But I still opted to watch it, on account of it being a movie that I hadn't already seen.
Writer and director Anthony Catanese apparently go to bring his fetishes and desires on film here. But I can't claim that the script that he conjured up was anywhere near being a particular piece of well-written cinematic masterpiece. In fact, it was pretty low key and failed on many accounts. Most importantly, it failed on the entertainment account, and thus it just wasn't a good movie to sit through.
I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. While I wasn't particularly impressed with the acting performances, I have to say that I've seen far worse performances in horror movies.
Visually, well you're not in for anything grand here. But against, I've seen far worse special effects in horror movies.
Was this a good horror comedy? No, because it sort of failed on both accounts. Would I recommend you to sit down and watch this movie? No. Will I ever return to watch this movie a second time? No, no I will not. But I am sure that the movie might appeal to an audience of randy teenage boys.
How "Girls Just Wanna Have Blood" has managed to snag a 5.2 rating on IMDb, in this very moment that I am writing this review, simply is beyond me.
My rating of writer and director Anthony Catanese's 2017 movie lands on a generous three out of ten stars.
