Avis à la une
This is a pretty goofy comedy, but they're light on content and the story is nonsense. I'm surprised and suspicious at the high ratings that appeared almost immediately after release.
Overall they just didn't do enough interesting stuff, and I couldn't suspend my disbelief for how silly some of the story was. The premise is good, and they have a few good scenes, but they wasted tons of time on what felt like filler and they didn't spend enough time on the stuff that should be funny/interesting regarding the premise.
Craig Cackowski and Mikelen Walker were both pretty great on screen, but the others felt pretty mediocre. You want to like the other 2 stars, but their delivery wasn't so good. The writers didn't have a strong grasp of how someone might get paid for board game design, and V. V. Stubbs whole deal was so silly that it was almost impossible for me to get into the story itself. The scale of money to drive the characters felt FAR TO LOW for it to be believable.
They could have had something really solid if they tweaked the story slightly to make it more plausible, spent more time on what the premise implied they would, and did some scenes more like the opening ones.

The film centers on three friends (read: geeks) who get the chance of a lifetime when they are sired away to the home of a secluded game developer. Hijinks ensue when the developer wants to produce/ own the trio's game board but also compromise its original integrity.
To avoid spoilers, I won't go any farther into the plot than that.
But overall this film is interesting because it covers a lot of the ins/outs of developing board games, which is something I never really thought about before. It also offers the best of the dark-comedy genre between the personality of the three characters and how the "murder" unfolds. Sometimes your greatest dream can be your worst nightmare.
Excellent cinematography, good acting, and I wish maybe that the film wasn't so confined to only three locations or so, but it's a small budget film (so that's OK). It's worth watching, loved the concept.

Murder Bury Win is an indie film about 3 friends trying to secure funding for a fictional murder mystery board game (similar to that of Clue) the three created. When trouble strikes, the friends must use their own board game to get themselves out of their real life murder mystery scenario.
Overall this film is competently made but in the end suffers from a weak script that lacks pacing and direction which ends up in a mediocre affair. The characters fail to connect and their predicament becomes far too predicable as the film slowly chugs along.
What starts off as a seeming comedy, never seems to find its comedic legs. What is intended as humor never quite lands. As the film progresses it seems to want to change gears into other genres but like the comedy, can't seem to decide where it wants to go and never gets there.
Overall the film has one beat and never seems to move from that place. Even when the plot is supposed to pick up, the film never really gets interesting. If I had to sum it up in a single word, it would be "boring".

Best friends, Chris, Adam, and Barrett, have created their board game Murder Bury Win. Their crowdfunding is going nowhere. Prolific game designer Victor Von Stubbs invites them to an isolated cabin. He offers to buy the game off their hands but they can't acknowledge creating it.
They need to bump up the money. $3k is not big enough as a cinematic lure. It needs to be a deal with the devil. Adam needs to be a wild crazy punk instead of a white preppy guy. I do like the descend into chaos but it needs a little more setup. If Victor's death is more messy, it would explain the need for a cover up. I love this idea but it needs to be developed more carefully.

This is a hidden gem on Amazon. It's clearly a low budget film but it really should be a lot more well known. It was released in 2020
so I think maybe covid has us all preoccupied.
Everything about this movie worked for me.
And that surprised me.
I was constantly expecting this move to skew into failure territory and it never did.
They even managed to clinch the ending.
Watch it because it's original. It's fresh. It's not a reboot, a prequel, threequel, it's not anything except a cool premise that is relevant, realistic in a way, and just plain kooky enough to work.
So watch it. It's a way to spend your time and laugh.
