The President's Mistress

Very dated tv movie starring Beau Bridges, Larry Hagman, Don Porter, Karen Grassle, and Susan Blanchard. Bridges was 36 here; he looks 18.

Donna Morton (Grassle) is having an affair with the President of the US, unbeknownst to her brother (Bridges). She is suspected of being a KGB agent, and while someone is putting a bug in her phone, she is accidentally killed.

Bridges saw her in a White House owned limo; he sets out to find what happened.

It was interesting to compare this film to one made today. The computers were ancient, for one thing. Cheesy background music. These are common in films from that era.

The thing that really struck me was how nice everyone was, much less sinister from today. And he seems to be able to get access to places pretty easily. We're sort of supposed to be suspicious of his girlfriend. Goes nowhere.

The lead character was in danger, yes, but nothing like he would have been today. In one of today's films, he would have been the lead character for five minutes.

The film ends abruptly after meandering along. No twists, little action. We've gotten a lot nastier.
