The Devil in Miss Jones 3: A New Beginning

While porn theaters were closing their doors, expensive film stock was still occasionally employed to upgrade the sadly sagging level of porn. The already notorious Dark "Brothers" (writer/director/producer Gregory a/k/a soft core supplier "Alexander Gregory Hippolyte" and executive producer Walter Gernert), whose marketing genius had put them on the smut map with epics such as NEW WAVE HOOKERS, BETWEEN THE CHEEKS and LET ME TELL YA 'BOUT WHITE CHICKS, smugly claimed that porn was dead and that they would provide an entirely different kind of fine filth. Personally, I consider Dark nowhere near as innovative as he claimed but I will also be the first to admit that DMJ3 is by far the best movie he has ever made. Unfortunately, it's just half a movie as the tale is concluded in the considerably weaker DMJ4, obviously intended to recoup high production costs. The astonishing set design alone must have swallowed up a healthy share of the budget. Taken as a whole, it comes across as hit 'n' miss, not so much a sequel to both previous installments as a rethinking of the same material.

Justine Jones, mid-'80s version, is no longer the somewhat sour spinster of the original but a liberated young lady sporting a platinum Mohawk and surprisingly well-played by the engaging Lois Ayres who could be crowned the decade's sequel queen based on this and Edwin Durell's equally excellent EVERY WOMAN HAS A FANTASY 2. Looks can be deceiving though, because despite her aggressive-spontaneous demeanor she leads an unremarkable if initially contented life blown to smithereens when she discovers her slimy boyfriend Tom Byron fooling around on her. She goes out to paint the town bright red, meeting lonely stranger Paul Thomas who woos her into bed by telling his tales of woe. Try saying that five times fast ! The tryst turns to tragedy when Justine bangs into the headboard in the throes of orgasm. She awakens in a dark and threatening environment (no prizes for guessing) to the ranting of black pimp Negro, played by the late Jack Baker in one of the finest non-sex performances ever in 'core. He informs Justine that she has to make her way through Hell in order to get back to her own apartment and so the odyssey begins...

Dark has crafted some incredibly intense sexual encounters for the occasion, by and large eschewing the spiteful misogyny that disfigures much of his later output. Two scenes in particular stand out. Platinum princess Amber Lynn performs a "two poles in a single hole" double penetration in the busy Voyeur Room sequence and Vanessa Del Rio knows that the only way to go out is with a bang so she does just that, with a gang bang in the Slut Room ! A lot of effort was poured into the production with sophisticated cinematography, a faux New Wave soundtrack you can actually enjoy rather than endure and rapid fire editing. Take note of some extraordinary sound editing during Vanessa's scene, mixing the sounds of beating drums and...oinking pigs ?! Best of all, though eventually suffering from being stretched too thin, is the witty screenplay by "Johnny Jump-Up" a/k/a the man who ultimately became carnal creator par excellence Antonio Passolini.

The Devil in Miss Jones 3: A New Beginning is a scorching addition to the franchise, delivering on its promise of steamy, explicit content. Director Gregory Dark certainly knows his audience and crafts a tantalizing treat for the senses, with a particular standout scene featuring the incomparable Amber Lynn. Amber delivers a show-stopping performance, teasing and pleasing with equal measure in a raunchy double vaginal penetration with Marc Wallice and Peter North. The scene is an erotic feast, with Amber's skills on full display, leaving the audience throbbing with delight as she moans and writhes with unbridled passion.

The Devil in Miss Jones 3 is a visual feast, with excellent lighting and set design, adding a touch of class to the explicit content. The camera work is creative, capturing the action from intriguing angles, ensuring the audience enjoys a unique and intimate perspective. Miss Jones was made immortal in the previous movie but in this one she dies and goes back to hell again (or does she?). Sounds like more of the same and yes it is. This movie is not as 'clever' or original as the previous two entries in the series and there are some other big differences as well.

First of all, there is no more Georgina Spelvin, so instead now Miss Jones suddenly looks like a young rock-chick, which must have been considered to be a hot thing back in the mid-'80's. This time the titular role is played by Lois Ayres, who also appeared in the fourth movie, which apparently got shot back to back with this movie.

But really the biggest difference is the change of style and approach. The first two movies were still being made from mostly a serious cinematic approach, while this movie is clearly more simply focusing on being a porn. Nothing wrong with such an approach of course but it really goes at the expense of the movie its fun and entertainment level. This director clearly had experience in this business and looses basically all of the other true cinematic aspects, that the previous 2 movies still contained a bit.

But still, this movie is being more and something better than just the average genre attempt. They still put some effort into it and it actually does follow still a sort of story. It's also way more fun to watch still than the other normal, especially modern, genre attempt. But beware though; this movie puts its emphasis this time way more on its hardcore porn sequences, that last quite long as well, so know what to expect when watching this movie.

A true classic from the warped mind of Greg Dark.Lois Ayers is utterly stunning as she weaves her way through the surrealistic bowels of hell.Amber Lynn`s cameo is intense although I`m led to believe the DP is fake and Mark Wallice is at his arrogant chauvanistic best.Dark`s perverted sense of humour prevails once again.Also check out the sequel D.I.M.J 4.

One of the all-time classics from the golden age of porn! Production quality is superb and the acting as well. Jack Baker is hilarious as Justine's guide. You'll love the soundtrack. The oinking gangbang scene with Vanessa del Rio is the standard by which all gangbang scenes should be judged. Amber Lynn is both beautiful and depraved, (which really should be the minimum requirements for a porn actress) as Tammy, delivering a performance by which all real-life mmf threesomes must necessarily be judged.

As one would expect, there is a dark, dreamy, desperate vibe to the Hell scenes through which Justine travels, and the filmmakers weave in just the right amount of humor to keep the viewer happy and horny.

For a series of staged sex scenes to leave an impression 31 years after the initial viewing, the actors, set design, the music, dialogue and pace have to come together in a perfect balance that grabs you in the viscera and plays upon your earliest sexual imprints, made (mostly unintentionally) by nannies, first girlfriends, aunties, babysitters nurses and of course, our moms and their hot friends. DMJ3 does this with deft precision and careless, hedonistic abandon. It is delicious.
