William Paulson, who plays the alien, can also be seen out of makeup at the beginning of the movie. He plays a soldier in an Army Jeep.

While most of the US troops have weapons concurrent with WW2, mittens has a non existent one. The barrel looks like it comes from an M17 air cooled Browning machine gun, the receiver looks like it supposed to be from a Thompson submachine gun. By the sound effect, it's supposed to be a 30. Caliber machine gun. But by appearance, it's made up.
