Avis à la une
A trivial musical comedy from the vast repertoire of the West German film industry of the 1950s! The story is set in northern Italy, where a celebrated opera singer (Jon OTNES) decides one day to wander through the villages as a street singer. He meets a charming sculptress (Gertrud KÜCKELMANN), who gradually discovers his secret.
Director Robert Adolf STEMMLE had already made a far better film with BERLINER BALLADE (1948) starring Gert FRÖBE, for which he won a prize at the 1949 Venice Film Festival.
The Norwegian opera singer Jon OTNES (1919-2004) makes his only screen appearance here.
Gertrud KÜCKELMANN (1929-1979) was awarded a German Film Prize (then called the Filmband in Gold) for RAUSCH EINER NACHT (The Ecstasy of a Night). British wrestler Joe ROBINSON (1927-2017) served as the model for the sculptor in the film. The previous year, he had appeared in Carol Reed's A KID FOR TWO FARTHINGS. Appearances in Italian sword-and-sandal films such as GLI INVASORI and URSUS E LA RAGAZZA TARTARA (both 1961) soon followed. Perhaps most famous, however, is the elevator fight between Joe ROBINSON and Sean CONNERY in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER (1971).
