Srividya and Mamooty are a mid aged couple . He has good status in society due to his profession of a doctor. Srividya is his jealous suspicious wife and never misses a chance to accuse her husband of having an affair with
any one and every one . He bears everything silently . Their daughter Cecily is hurt by her mother's attitude and tries to correct her often .
Their front door neighbors are Thilakan and Sulakshana . Thilakan is again an aged suspicious husband . Sulakshana is a simple young tolerant wife . She bears his accusations and hurt without complaining . Their only son Rahman often sides with his mother and tries to bring cheer to her dull life .
Both Srividya and Thilakan are good caring spouses other wise . Both families keep interacting as they live next to each other. Both Srividya and Thilakan keep an eye on their spouses all the time.
Very soon Rahman and Cecily fall in love as they go to the same college . Despite Mamooty warning her not to grow affections towards him , she gets drawn to Rahman .
As they are from different communities Srividya refuses to get them married.
Her nagging whining and domineering increases day by day . Even Thilakan is not happy with his son marrying a Christian girl .
She also locks Cecily in her room while she is away .
Despite Mammooty trying to speak sense , she refuses to change her decision. Finally both Cecily and Rahman commit suicide a lot of crying and wailing later . Both Srividya and Thilakan come to their senses but by then the deed is already done .
An engaging movie . Srividya looks pretty even in simple sarees , always scowling , shouting with no make up or jewelry . Dependable Thilakan needs no introduction. Mamooty is perfect as a quite long suffering spouse and an affectionate father. Sulakshana shows a lot of torment quietly .
A lesson to all suspicious and jealous spouses even today .
